Mumbai Metro’s Topo & Geo Bids Opened for Ulhasnagar Extn

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on September 29 and today opened financial bids for topographical and geotechnical surveying works to assist with preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for extending Mumbai Metro’s 24.9 km Line-5 (Orange Line) by 7 km from Durgadi Chowk in Kalyan to Ulhasnagar, with a new 8 km loop within Bhiwandi connecting Rajiv Chowk with Temghar.

DMRC had invited bids for both services in September with varying lengths of completion. Contracts for both should be awarded by month-end, with work starting in November.

Here’s the route map shared by DMRC within the tender notice. It appears the Orange Line in the future will bifurcate at Durgadi Chowk, with one branch continuing south-west to Kalyan APMC (and onward to Taloja as Line-12), and the other branch heading south-west to Ulhasnagar.

I don’t necessarily care about who won, but it’s always good to see things moving along – especially since these tender notices came out of nowhere, with no formal plans for this extension ever getting announced outside of the previous Chief Minister’s election campaign.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has existing plans in motion to extend the partly under construction Line-5 by 20.7 km from Kalyan APMC to Taloja in Navi Mumbai. They’re currently in the process of selecting a General Consultant (GC) for its civil works, with the bid submission deadline coming up tomorrow (October 15) and bid opening on October 22.

Yea, the eastern side (Bhiwandi – Kalyan) and proposed depot at Kon Village have land acquisition issues.

I hope that the revised alignment will prevent land acquisition problems for this Line especially 4 the Depot. Plus I think the Section from Kalyan to Ulhasnagar will make Underground as these areas are too crowded for an elevated Viaduct.

The 8 kms loop line from Rajiv Gandhi Chowk to Temghar will be a boon for Bhiwandi.
All parts of Bhiwandi will have Metro facility at easily accessible locations.👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍
