Delhi Metro Cancels Tender for 29 Metrolite Train-Sets

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has abruptly canceled its procurement process for 29 Metrolite (Light Rail Transit) trains to run on the upcoming 19.15 km Kirti Nagar – Bamnoli Village (Dwarka ECC) corridor.

Tenders/bids for the procurement of these new standard gauge trains, with an original configuration of 22 trains of 3 cars, were invited in January 2020 with a submission date in April. Since then, the number of trains had been revised up to 29 and the submission date had been extended at least 2 times – the latest being November 20.

Per an industry follower, the tender of these trains (Package MLRS1) was canceled on October 5 with no official reasoning provided in the corrigendum notice. On the tendering system side of things, the reason provided is simply “Due to administrative reasons/issues

Scope: Design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning and comprehensive maintenance upto fifteen years of 29 nos. of standard gauge metrolite trains and complete depot for Kirti Nagar – Bamnoli Village Metrolite project.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of this metrolite line is currently awaiting the Delhi government’s approval, so perhaps that had a role to play as financing hasn’t been tied up. Topographical work and geotechnical investigation for it had just commenced in mid-September.

The line will consist of 21 mostly at-grade stations at Kirti Nagar (elevated), Saraswati Garden, Mayapuri Bus Depot, Mayapuri, Hari Nagar, Mayapuri Industrial Area (MIA), Mayapuri Industrial Area 2 (MIA 2), Tihar Jail, Shivpuri (elevated), Dabri Village (elevated), Sitapuri (elavated), Mahavir Enclave (elevated), Dwarka Sector 2, Dwarka Sector 7, Dwarka Sector 6, Dwarka Court, Dwarka Sector 20, Dwarka Sector 23, Dhul Siras – Dwarka Sector 24, Dwarka Sector 25 – ECC Centre and Bamnoli Village

In other news, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has cancelled Package 18 of the 82.15 km Delhi Meerut RRTS line which involved the procurement of a rail grinding machine – similar to this seen in Bengaluru. Again, no official reason has been provided. Its bid submission deadline was coming on November 17.

The project is still alive until the Delhi government rejects its DPR.

I expect the rolling stock tender to make a comeback after the project is approved. Feel DMRC got a little ahead of itself here.

“DMRC got a little ahead of itself here”

Is it just here & only DMRC or the MoHua headed by Hardeep Puri who keeps after unviable routes for Delhi but claims lack of feasibility for expansion in cities that badly & almost desperately need new lines?

Hardeep Puri was ready for GoI takeover of ph4 including this & another unviable route & then he was prepared to bear all its losses out of tax payers’ money.

        https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/delhi/will-go-alone-on-delhi-metro-phase-iv-says-hardeep-singh-puri/

What will he say next? That he is ready to pay for these unviable metrolite lines & bear all its losses out of his own pocket?

As long as we have such singular attention to Delhi by GoI ministries & lop-sided priorities by useless ministers at the helm, all other Indian cities will continue to have huge infrastructure deficits.

Hahaha! hardeep puri may very well offer to pay for metrolite out of his own pocket, going by his irresponsible, stupid utterances of the past!

DMRC cheerleader here is now claiming that it is “gauging response of major rolling stock manufacturers” & has already assumed deheli will have country’s first metrolite project.

Sure, hardeep puri and durga shanker misra will make sure it always will be their beloved deheli that will get everything first. They better go after maglev & hyperloop too before someone else gets it first!

Delhi will have country’s first metrolite system in a few years for sure. And I will be having finest french toast made from the eggs that will be on your face when that happens 😂😂😂.

Cope and seethe man, cope and seethe.

      • Himanshu Doria says:

I think that was because DMRC wanted to gauge the response of major Rolling Stock manufacturers for country’s first metrolite project. Right now only one firm in the country makes the metrolite rakes indigenously.

Plus recent DPIIT guidelines restricting Chinese firms have came into affect and since the tender have been open for atleast 10 months, I think they want to update it with accordance to that guidelines.

Where can we check all metro tenders dedicated to only metro trains that run across the India?
Is there any particular site like central government’s e-tender website for Indian metro trains?

There isn’t a consolidated location for all. Although I think you can subscribe to 3rd party tender sites (Tender Tiger, Tender 247 etc.) and then add filters to narrow down to transportation. I haven’t tried any of those or know anyone who has.

DMRC should also improve service in outer delhi where DTC transport not so frequent..Rithala Bawana project still pending. Smooth transportation system in outer delhi help to reduce density of Central delhi.. Plz do the needful and start pending project of Rithala Bawana extension project.

Yes, Rithala Bawana project is maybe the most important corridor, I don’t know why officials are ignoring it, Bawana is the industrial hub of Delhi then I don’t know why people say that the route will not generate traffic.

Metrolite is proposed on rithala narela route. It now needs delhi and central government approval. I think government can approve it before elections
