Mumbai – Nagpur High Speed Rail’s Design & Survey Bids Opened

Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd. (DIMMTS) and four other firms in November emerged as the lowest bidders for 5 packages to help prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the 741 km Mumbai – Nasik – Nagpur High Speed Rail (MNHSR bullet train) project which will connect both cities through 12 stations in Maharashtra.

NHSRCL had invited tenders (bids) for these five packages (and two others) with varying lengths of completion in September dealing with preparing a final alignment design (including aerial LiDAR survey), carrying out a ridership (traffic) study, preparing General Arrangement Drawings (GADs) and data collection surveying work.

If no issues arise during financial bid evaluation, then all five winners listed above should receive a Letter of Award (LoA) in the coming weeks, if not already.

Financial bids haven’t yet been opened for the tenders dealing with conducting an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) and identifying utilities and power sourcing options for substations.

The finalization of this line’s alignment is months, if not years, away but the line is expected to partly follow the under construction 701 km Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway (Nagpur Mumbai Super Communication Expressway) which will connect 10 districts of the state.

12 new stations are tentatively planned to be built at Shahapur, Igatputi, Nasik, Shirdi, Aurangabad, Jalna, Mehkar, Malegaon Jahangir, Karanja Lad, Pulgaon, Wardha and Nagpur.

    I think this line will be known as Nagpur Shinkansen and in future it will extend till Howrah as well. If extend, then the travel time will reduce till 3 hrs from Mumbai to Nagpur and 6-7 hours from Mumbai to Howrah.
