Besides Line-5’s final package, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on Tuesday night also invited tenders (bids) for the construction of Chennai Metro Line-3’s final package between Nehru Nagar – Sholinganallur.
The scope of this package (CP08-EV-01) includes an approximately 10 km elevated viaduct starting from a ramp south of Taramani Link Road Station and 10 stations on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).
This is the 15th tender notice for civil work on the 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project, 9th & final one for Line-3 (Madhavaram Milk Colony – SIPCOT 2), and the 2nd for Line-3’s approximately 19 km elevated section that runs between Taramani Link Road and SIPCOT 2.

TMRG,
How corridor 5 going to connect in corridor 3 and make it circular? Any structure design to share?
Many are curious to know.
Also is this mentioned line going to be double decker?
Any additional information?
Hi, I don’t have structural design, but I’ve mapped out Line-5’s alignment here:
https://themetrorailguy.com/chennai-metro-phase-2-information-map/
At Sholinganallur, it’s going to make a big circle to meet Line-3 in a parallel manner instead of at a right angle. Don’t have more info at this time. Tender drawings should be out soon.
Already DPR proposes circular route between corridor 3 and 5 to minimize rolling stock requirements
TMRG, can you let us know what’s up with the elevated corridor in OMR. As per DPR, they’re supposed to be built along with the metro viaducts but the tenders so far doesn’t indicate that. Also, who’s executing that 500 m stretch, metro or Railways?
The 500 metre stretch will be executed by the contractor appointed by Southern railway.
And coming to elevated road suprised to see that tender documents have not mentioned anything about it..
Hi, elevated road doesn’t seem to be part of this package’s scope.
Tender notices typically include basic scope and the road is too big to not be included. I mean if it were part of the plans, it would definitely had been included in the basic scope.
Let’s see what the other more detailed docs suggest when they’re out.
TMR,
NCC ltd have won the patna metro elevated section line one? If won then what is the bid for that project by NCC ltd?
NCC won Line-2’s 1st package. Details are here:
https://themetrorailguy.com/2020/08/31/ncc-lowest-bidder-for-patna-metros-construction/
Line-1’s 1st package’s financial bids haven’t been opened yet.
TMRG,
Can you please check and let us know for crossover information between line 3 and line 5 in Porur Junction or Alwar Thiru Nagar for the track interchange to access the Poonamallee. If it is available then all these elevated corridor can start even before completing the underground from Poonamallee depot.
I need to re-check, but I don’t believe Porur Junction has a crossover. The integrated stations are all double-decker.
As Sipcot depot plan dropped and CMBT depot signalling differing from phase 2. If the phase 2 elevated corridor depending on Madhavaram alone, till the underground completion partial running will not be possible.
If Poonamallee depot is accessible for line 5 through interchange, the elevated line may start immediate after completion.
SIPCOT will have an elevated stabling yard instead, so they can possibly start operations without being connected to Poonamallee or Madhavaram depots 🙂
Drawbacks are little to no cleaning (especially exterior) and maintenance. Not sure if CMRL would like to pursue that though.
where is the station for perungudi coming up
Hi! Where can I find station wise footfall data?
