Afcons Begins Casting I-Girders for Mumbai Metro’s Line-5
After U-girders in December 2020, Afcons Infrastructure this past week began casting I-girders in Dapode to build the viaduct of a 12.811 km western section of Mumbai Metro’s 24.9 km Line-5 (Orange Line) which will connect Thane – Bhiwandi – Kalyan.
Line-5 for the most part is fairly straight but a small undisclosed number of I-girders will be cast by Afcons for package CA-28’s viaduct wherever it curves between Kapurbawadi (Thane) and Dhamankar Naka (Bhiwandi).
Some of these might even be utilized for constructing the seven stations en route at Kapurbawadi, Balkum Naka, Kalher, Purna, Anjurphata, and Dhamankar Naka.
The team started casting piers in February 2020 and setting up their casting yard at Dapode in August 2020 – see images.
Here are some snaps shared by Arjun Dhotre:
As shared earlier – the route of Line-5’s eastern section between Bhiwandi and Kalyan still hasn’t been finalized yet due to opposition from local residents and shopkeepers opposing the acquisition of their properties. There hasn’t been any progress on that front since the project’s inception.
