Bids Invited for Chennai Metro Line-4’s 1st Underground Section

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) just invited tenders (bids) for the construction of the first underground section of the city’s new 26.09 km Line-4 (Light House – Poonamallee Bypass).

This 4.877 km section with twin tunnels connects a ramp west of Kodambakkam Flyover Station to Boat Club Station with 5 stations at Kodambakkam Flyover (formerly Meenakshi College), Kodambakkam, Panagal Park (with a crossover), Nandanam and Boat Club (Adyar Gate Junction). A station planned at Natesan Park is no longer in the works.

This is the 16th tender notice for civil work on the 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project, 3rd & penultimate one for Line-4, and the 1st of two for its 10.13 km underground section (Light House – Power House Ramp).

  • Pre-Bid Meeting: April 6, 2021 at 15:00 hours
  • Bid Submission End Date: June 18, 2021 up to 15:00 Hrs
  • Technical Bid Opening Date: June 18, 2021 at 17:00 Hrs

Brief Scope: Construction of underground stations at Boat Club, Nandanam, Panagal Park, Kodambakkam, Kodambakkam Flyover including underground crossover at Panagal Park Station and associated twin tunnel, cut & cover box, U section and ramp project start from chainage 5+150m to end chainage 10+0.27m (down line)

Line-4’s 10.13 km underground section (Light House – Power House Ramp) will be financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through a $780 million (approx. Rs. 5890 crore) loan.

With today’s development, just one more main-line tender notice is pending for Line-4’s remaining 5.15 km underground section between Light House and Bharathidasan Road stations. In addition, a tender notice is also pending for Line-3 and Line-5’s combined Madhavaram Depot in north Chennai.

      Will the Poonamallee line reach the Tirumazhisai bus terminal? ( Where the alternative to Koyambedu Bus Stand is being built)?

        In Phase 2 the line’s going to end at the bypass. Perhaps in the next/later phase it’ll be extended further west.

    I think you can use latest map ( with station edits)published by cmrl when foundation stone was laid for phase 2

    High time to plan for extending up Mahabalipuram from sipcot.this will help people to move from city.aquiring land cheeper.consider the bus presently running upto the place.on this strech lot of engineering colleges are established .tourist spot Mahabalipuram will have week end travel.many more.
