Bids have been opened now.. which means after a couple of months of technical evaluation qualified bidders will be chosen and out of them the one with the least quoted price will be awarded the tender . And this will take another 3 months minimum.

Why can’t Cmrl come up with good station names. For example, thirumayilai station can be changed as mylapore. Also many MRTS commuters call it as mylapore station.
Next is why cant panangal park be named as T.Nagar. Its a major hub in Chennai and theres no metro station named as T nagar? In phase 1 mannadi as George town or Broadway! And thiyagaraya college metro where the college is actually situated in Korukkupet! High court to Parrys station . And finally eliminating these politians names from stations like puratchi thalaivar mgr central. p.t.jayalalitha cmbt metro, aringar anna alandur metro! ugh! Grow up CMRL!

Thirumayilai and Mannadi are traditional names. So they suit well in my opinion. But yes korukkupet, T. Nagar are apt rather than thyagaraya college and panagal park. Definitely these namings after the politicians make station names more lengthier. Already anna has anna nagar tower and east stations named after him. In phase 2 too anna fly over station going to come up but they should retain the name as Gemini fly over.

Bro Broadway and George town was way old places bro. But anyway mannadi is going only. Speaking of Anna nagar, Anna nagar was called naduvankarai previously. Way back Annadurai built a good housing place which now turned to be the masterpiece of Chennai! So naming Anna nagar is just like the names of kk Nagar (kalaingar karunanidhi Nagar) and JJ Nagar( j. Jayalalitha Nagar) so it ain’t a pbm

So after completion of this phase total length of Chennai metro will be how many kilometers from the present 54kms i have lost count ?

    • Clevin Gomes says:

54+118=172 kms of Metro Network, adding 20Kms of MRTS will convert into metro which will have a total of 192Kms.

54 km phase 1 , 118 km phase 2 , 16 km kilambakkam blue line extension likely to be in phase 2 , 25 km mrts conversion to broad gauge metro . So metro 213 km and metrolite 17 km . 230 km in total.

          • Samuel Abisheik says:

Bro it’s just 214km as you said. But adding metrolite here is not correct bro. It’s different right! Also still dpr hasn’t been prepared yet! Anyway our metro length is bigger than that of b’lore and Hyderabad!

  7. Guna says:

In road project like expressways more than 18 bids are receiving whereas for CMRL only 2 bids 3 bids are receiving, Please think about the margin of these 2 bidders going to get. CMRL is literally making monopoly to participate…

Is there any scope in Chennai Metro beyond the currently envisaged 230 km (213 kms metro plus 17 kms metrolite)? Are there any plans?

I feel there are many interior areas like Ambattur, Avadi, Chengalpet, Sriperumbudur, Tambaram, Sterling Road, etc left out. They can be provided metro link.

Also, can metro can be provided up to Kancheepuram?

    • Srinivasan says:

Definitely yes. Check Chennai Comprehensive Mobility Plan 2048 . Routes like Pallavaram thoraipakkam road, pattabhiram to kilpauk, avadi to airport via poonamallee, koyambedu to poonamallee via maduravoyal etc are covered as proposals.

    • Atharv says:

Yes. A lot more is possible within city limits itself. Most of the western suburbs like Ambattur, Maduravoyal have been left out. Moreover, there is a phase 1 extension plan till Kilambakkam bus stand. There is this Pallavaram to Thoraipakkam stretch, Velachery to Tambaram etc. Apart from this, connection can be made to Red Hills, Avadi, Kundrathur etc. Highly unlikely we will be seeing a metro till Chengalpettu or Sriperumbudur though in the next 25-30 years

    • Samuel Abisheik says:

Yes bro we’ll hope cmrl plans now itself. Apart from phase 2 and South line extension, priority corridors are being planned for avadi, ambatur route that is connecting Anna nagar (thirumangalam) with avadi through ambatur. And also from red hills to airport via Orr. Also avadi extension is mentioned in DMK manifesto itself.
