L&T, KEC & JMC Bid for Chennai Metro Line-3’s 1st Elevated Section
December 3 Update: CMRL has cancelled this tender and re-invited bids.
3 construction firms have bid for constructing Chennai Metro Line-3’s first elevated package between Nehru Nagar – Sholinganallur after Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) opened technical bids today for Package CP08-EV-01.
The scope of this section of the 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project includes an approximately 10 km viaduct starting from a ramp south of Taramani Link Road Station with 10 stations on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).
CMRL invited bids for its construction financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in February with a 36 month deadline and an unknown estimate.
Bidders:
- JMC Projects
- KEC International (note: might have bid with HCC in a JV as seen in other Phase 2 packages)
- Larsen & Toubro
Tender No.: CMRL/CON/PHASE-II/CORRIDOR3/CP08-EV-01/2021
Brief Scope: Construction of elevated viaduct (approximate length-10 km) including elevated ramp and ten (10) elevated metro stations at Nehru Nagar, Kandanchavadi Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Mettukuppam, PTC Colony, Okkiyampet, Karapakkam, Okkiyam Thoraipakkam and Shalinganagallur
The bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor for its construction.
Technical bids for Line-3’s second / southern-most elevated package (C3-ECV-01) connecting Sholinganallur Lake and SIPCOT 2 are currently planned to be opened on July 19. That package’s construction will be primarily financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through a $780 mn loan which is currently under evaluation. Stay tuned to find out its bidders!

If there is no policy of cmrl that only one company win one bid of a line of some purposes
L&t win every contract.
They had clauses / stipulations for twin packages where only 1 firm could win:
Line-3’s two tunnel packages
Line-4’s two elevated packages
But I don’t believe they don’t have an overall clause across the entire project
CMRL was working on a Saturday??
Yup, someone or a few from the procurement/tendering team
Again just 3 bidders…
Common super ….
Boring! Why can’t they finalize or at least give everything to l&t.
Any idea when this item will be confirmed and finalized? I am excited to see the work happening on my locality soon..
Tender has been cancelled and bids have been reinvited
