MG Wins Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR’s P1C Bridge Package

MG Contractors today emerged as the lowest bidder to build 1 prestressed concrete (PSC) and 4 steel truss bridges for the 508.17 km Mumbai – Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR Bullet Train) project after NHSRCL opened financial bids for P-1C.

Just last Friday they had won Package P1B‘s contract for 11 bridges on the project’s 237.1 km Package C4 which runs from the Maharashtra-Gujarat border to south of Vadodara.

All 5 bridges on P1C correspond to Larsen & Toubro’s under construction 87.569 km Package C6 (north of Vadodara to south of Ahmedabad) for which piling and pier work is underway at different sites throughout the route.

The fabrication and transportation of the steel truss girders will be done through Package P4 X & Y which was awarded to Larsen & Toubro – IHI Infrastructure Systems Consortium in January.

NHSRCL invited bids for P1C in November 2020 with a 1096 day (3 year) deadline and unknown estimate. Technical bids were opened in March to reveal 5 bidders. During evaluation, URC Construction and Ranjit Buildcon’s bids were found to be technically non-compliant.

Financial Bid Values:

MG ContractorsRs. 261.24 crore
KEC – SAM India JVRs. 349.22 crore  + 14.79 million Yen
GRIL – GPT JVRs. 388.85 crore

NHSRCL’s estimate is unknown, so it’s difficult to provide an assessment on how MG’s bid is placed and what could possibly be the next steps.

The next major tender in line for financial opening is Package C7. That 18.13 km section of the mainline from chainage 489.467 to 507.600 lies within Ahmedabad city with 2 elevated stations at Ahmedabad and Sabarmati. Technical bids were opened in March to reveal 6 bidders – see list and scope.

Hi – recommend contacting L&T or MG directly. I know L&T has sub-contracted piling works to multiple local companies.
