KSM Wins Indore Metro Gandhi Nagar Depot’s Work

KSM Bashir Mohammad and Sons today emerged as the lowest bidder for the construction contract of Indore Metro Line-3’s Gandhi Nagar Depot (IN07) after Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRC) opened financial bids.

This depot of Indore Metro’s Phase 1 project is the 4th civil package so far, and will be used to serve trains on the 33.53 km Yellow Line which will form a ring line around Indore city connecting Palasia – Railway Station – Rajwara- Airport – Bhawarsala via 30 elevated stations.

MPMRCL invited tenders for the depot’s construction in September 2021 with a 3 year completion deadline and Rs. 283.65 crore estimate to be funded through equity contribution from the Government of India and Government of Madhya Pradesh.

Technical bids were opened in November 2021 to reveal 16 bidders. During evaluation, bids from the following 10 firms were rejected as they were found non-compliant to the tender conditions.

  • Altis Holding Corporation – Varindera Constructions (Altis-VCL) JV

Brief Scope: Construction of Rolling Stock Depot cum Workshop at Gandhi Nagar for Indore Metro Rail Project

Depot’s layout via MPMRCL’s tender documents – view large

Design details such as the number of stabling, workshop, inspection lines wasn’t mentioned in the basic tender notice and still remains unknown at this time. Altis-VCL recently won Chennai Metro Poonamallee Depot’s contract, so I’m curious to see why they got disqualified.

Anyhow, KSM Bashir Mohammad’s bid at Rs. 247.64 crore was well below MPMRCL’s estimate of Rs. 283.65 crore, so a contract should be awarded in the coming weeks. They recently wrapped up work at Kanpur Metro’s Polytechnic Depot in record time, so I hope to see some of that momentum getting carried forward at Indore as well.

Indore’s Gandhi Nagar Depot will initially house 25 train-sets of 3 coaches (total 75 coaches) as part of a larger 156 coach rolling stock contract, combined with Bhopal Metro, for which bidding is currently underway. Technical bids are planned to be opened on February 11, so stayed tuned.
