3 Bidders for Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project’s Viaduct Work
Larsen & Toubro, Afcons Infrastructure and NCC are the three firms which have submitted bids to construct the first 8.027 km elevated viaduct of the 149.348 km Bengaluru Suburban Rail project (BSRP).
The scope of this section of the 23.866 km Corridor 2 (Baiyyappanahalli – Chikkabanavara) will connect Benniganahalli and Chikkabanavara. This is the first civil package of the entire project and the construction of stations en-route will be part of a separate package.
Karnataka’s Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) invited tenders for its construction in November 2021 with an unknown estimate and 27 month deadline. Technical bids were opened on Wednesday.

Scope: Design and construction of elevated viaduct of length 8.027 km (ch: -0.675 km to -0.050 km & ch: 11.137 km to 18.350 km) including ramps and formation in embankments /cuttings including blanketing, major bridges, minor bridges, RUB, ROB, ROR, retaining wall, sacrificial retaining wall and drains, utility diversions of at-grade section of length 17.551 km (ch: -0.964 km to ch:-0.675 km, ch: -0.050 km to ch: 11.137 km & ch: 18.350 km to 24.425 km) and other related infrastructural works from Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara, excluding station buildings, of corridor – 2 of Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP)
The bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.
Back in February, Egis – Louis Berger – AECOM JV emerged as the preferred bidder for the project’s General Consultant (GC) contract. I haven’t seen any other significant tender notice (civil or systems) getting published in 2022.

Ideally CORRIDOR 1(Red) should be extented upto KENGERI & CORRIDOR 2 (Blue) upto HEELELIGE
Nice to see stuff happening. Fun fact: Bengaluru’s current ‘suburban’ lines, were never built to be serve commuters when they were constructed decades ago. All the lines were in fact too far from the city limits to be of any use, so only the occassional long-distance train ran through them. As Bengaluru grew, these lines started to become the city’s own peripheral lines.
That brings us to today, and as Bengaluru is now a megacity bursting at its seams, these are in fact arterial railway lines that, if provided adequate capacity (which is what K-RIDE is doing, none of these lines are ‘new’ per se), will certainly ease Bengaluru’s traffic woes, a la Mumbai/Chennai/Hyderabad/Kolkata. Currently, SWR does operate the occasional MEMU/DEMU services on these lines, but considering how they’re all single lines, many of which aren’t electrified, the commuter trains are slow and unreliable. This issue is what K-RIDE wants to tackle.
Apologies for the essay, but this is what I’ve understood so far.
There are certain double lines which can be used. For example, the KR Puram to Yelahanka route is double. Which can be used to run EMUs like Doddaballapura to Whitefield/ chikkaballapura ro whitefield.. it wouldnt even interfere with the mainline traffic of SBC-WFD.
I thought this tender is for entire corridor 2 and not just viaduct?

A station between Kagadaspura and Marathalli at Dodanekundi/ Mahadevpura or near Karthik Nagar bridge will ensure greater utilisation of the suburban rail by the IT sector on the ring road targeting the huge section of tech parks near Bagmane world Trade centre.
Also this station will ensure a seamless cross over from Suburban rail to Metro as they intersect near this section.
Please look into this to ensure the utilisation and benefit of a higher number of travellers
The Marathahalli station itself is right next to the Karthik Nagara bus stop. It’ll be a major hub with both Metro, Suburban Rail and bus stop right next to each other.
