1st Pune Metro Train Built in India Unveiled by Titagarh

Titagarh Wagons on Saturday rolled out Pune Metro’s first locally built trainset to operate on its 31.254 km Phase 1 lines connecting PCMC – Swargate and Vanaz – Ramwadi.

The light weight aluminium body train was unveiled at Titagarh’s plant in Uttarpara near Kolkata from where 31 of 34 3-coach trains will be manufactured.

Pune Metro’s 102 coach rolling stock contract was awarded to Titagarh Firema in August 2019 with a value of approximately Rs. 1125 crore and 160 week completion deadline. The first ever trainset built by Titagarh’s subsidiary Titagarh Firema SpA was unveiled in Caserta, Italy in August 2021.

Titagarh had unveiled the trains’ final design in August 2020 after multiple design iterations and claims these aluminum-body coaches with 15.5T axle load will be the lightest in India with the highest safety standards.

Titagarh was originally aiming to deliver this train-set by 2021-end, so they’re running a little behind schedule. A full list of design features and passenger amenities of these energy efficient trains can be viewed here.

An article was published at Times of India that Mumbai metro 2 & 7 may start operations from first week of April as Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety has given approval….Do you have any information about it?

CMRS inspection hasn’t taken place. Really not sure why/how TOI came up with that piece.

Yes, but those CMRS visits weren’t final. There’s more to happen. Lots more for MMRDA/MMMOCL/DMRC to correct from the initial observations reported.

Nope, CMRS has given his final sanction at 70 kmph max speed for Line 2A and 7 on 24th March. MMRDA is not speaking out of the air and they do plan to start the service in next 10 days.

          • TMRG says:

That’s news to me. Just earlier in the week (March 20) CMRS team made 7 observations for compliance which requires a final visit / testing of systems. I have a letter shared by a follower. These aren’t easy fixes and to me 3 days (21-24) isn’t enough to rectify, invite, inspect and issue approval.

Approvals have been rushed through in the past due to government pressure, so if indeed approved then that might be the case.

            Hey TMRG,
Can you please publish an article on the recent safety concerns raised by CMRS, Western Zone, Mumbai regarding Mumbai Metro 7 line? Those are some serious safety concerns. Commuters safety is at stake if not fixed by MMRDA before inauguration. No media is covering it properly and even you are turning a blind eye. Sad to see. Please don’t just cover only sweet news also look at bitter news sometimes.
