DBL wins Surat – Chennai Expressway’s Package 3 in Karnataka

Dilip Buildcon Ltd (DBL) on Tuesday emerged as the lowest bidder to construct 65.5 km Package 3 of the Solapur – Kurnool – Chennai Economic Corridor (NH-150C), which forms the southern section of what’s known as Surat – Chennai Expressway.

This new 1271 km six-lane access-controlled highway by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will have a mix of greenfield and brownfield-upgraded sections with an alignment passing by Nasik, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Kalaburgi, Kurnool, Kadappa & Tirupati to link Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

65.5 km Package 3 will connect Maradgi S. Andola to Baswantpur. NHAI invited tenders for its construction by hybrid annuity model (HAM) in December 2021 with a 2.5 year deadline and Rs. 1606.85 crore estimate. Technical bids were opened in February to reveal 17 bidders.

Financial Bid Values (Lowest 5):

FirmBid (Rs. crore)

Shankarnarayana Constructions 1641.23

Brief Scope: Development of 6 lane Access Controlled Greenfield Highway from km. 97.000 to km 162.500 Maradgi S Andola to Baswantpur section of NH150C (Pkg-3 of Akkalkot KNT or TS Border) under Bharatmala Pariyojna on HAM

Representational Only: the economic corridor will link Surat’s proposed Ring Road and Chennai Peripheral Ring Road

DBL’s bid of Rs. 1589 crore was well below NHAI’s Rs. 1606.85 crore estimate, so a contract should be awarded in the coming weeks.

With this development, the likely contractors for 3 of 4 packages of the Akkalkot, MH to Karnataka/Telangana Border section are now known: PNC Infratech (Package 2), Dilip Buildcon (Package 3) and Aashoka Buildcon (Package 4).

A list of this economic corridor’s packages, scope and their status can be viewed here.
