S&P-SIEPL Wins Bangalore Satellite Town Ring Road’s Package 2

S&P Infrastructure Developers – Skylark Infra Engineering JV on Tuesday emerged as the lowest bidder to construct 20.9 km Phase 3 Package 2 of the 280.8 km Bangalore Satellite Town Ring Road (NH-948A).

This 4-6 lane partially access-controlled under construction highway around Bangalore will have an alignment connecting 12 towns of Dobbasapete, Doddaballapura, Devanahalli, Sulibele, Hoskote, Sarjapura, Attibele, Anekal, Tattekere, Kanakapura, Ramanagara and Magadi.

It is being built in 3 parallel phases and involves construction of NH-948A and realignment of existing NH-648 (old NH-207). Phase 3’s Package 2 will connect Hoskote with the Karnataka – Tamil Nadu Border, just east of the city.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) invited tenders for this package’s construction in December 2021 with a Rs. 530.89 crore estimate, 2 year deadline and 5 year maintenance period. Technical bids were opened in February to reveal 16 bidders.

Financial Bid Values (Lowest 5):

S&P-SIEPL387.22
Amar Infrastructure387.36
Arcons Infrastructures and Constructions395.21

Brief Scope: Construction of 4 lane realignment of Old NH 207 (New NH 648) from TN/KA Border (CH 0.000) to Hoskote (CH 20.900) under Bharatmala Pariyojana as a part of Bangalore Ring Road in Karnataka on EPC Mode.

S&P-SIEPL JV’s bid of Rs. 387.22 crore was well below NHAI’s estimate of Rs. 530.89 crore, so a contract should be awarded in the coming weeks.

This under construction project has 9 packages of which 2 are under construction and 2 have had their financial bids opened. Design details and a list of all civil packages & their status can be viewed here.

This is now a central govt project. Earlier alignment was supposed to pass from Anekal, Attibele, Sarjapur and to Hoskote. But when central govt took over they changed the allignment to Anekal, Hosur, ChickTirupathi and to Hoskote (Bang-Chennail express way junction).

I guess when the project was mapped long back in 2017 itself govt have said it will connect 7 satellite towns but not pass through these 7 towns, and yeah its covering all the 7 towns and the road is constructed little bit far from these towns for economic improvement outside the cities aswell.

The proposal for STRR was given way back in 2007 by Karnataka Govt. In the year 2018, NHAI took over the project under Bharatmala project only then the progress is happening. The master plan was prepared on the old alignment. With this new alignment the Master plan is yet to be revised. We are not allowed to do any development on the notified land nor sell the land. People from Anekal, Attibele, Sarjapur & Hoskote and mostly affected due this since the new alignment road is coming in Tamilnadu state. I am one of the affected person because of this and i unable to do any development on my land from the past 15years.

Hi Sir, can you pls tell me what happens to the old NH648 specifically near Lakkur. I have seen the new alignment passing through Lakkur but what happens to the old NH648 which was passing through Yettakodi, Chikka Tirupati ?

        • Siva Pagadala says:

At least for now, the section of NH648 between Hoskote-Chikka Tirupati-Sarjapur will remain as it is. There is no project that I read of that expands that stretch. Bulk of the stretch between Chikka Tirupati and Sarjapur passes thru green zone. That could be one reason not to touch it.

Hoskote – Mallasandra – Koralur – Samethahalli – Sarjapura (Is this right)?

This was the old alignment. As per the new alignment, the road is passing from Hoskote to Chicktirupathi and then it enters Tamilnadu and goes along the outskirts of Hosur and then it reaches Anekal and from there on it follows the old alignment. Please see the map which is available in this page. The Green & Red color indication is as per new alignment between Hoskote & Anekal.

I have been to the area today where this road is being developed. I see leveling of the ground near Lakkur as per the new alignment. At least a KM of the land is leveled there. I took some pictures. I can share those if you reach me thru email.
