Bids Invited for Bangalore Metro Phase 2’s 72 Coach Contract
With the execution of CRRC’s 216 coach contract going nowhere, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) on Friday invited tenders for procuring 72 new coaches for the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project.
These 72 coaches (12 train-sets of 6 cars) will be deployed exclusively on the 19.143 km Yellow Line (Reach 5) which will connect RV Road – Bommasandra via 16 stations.
CRRC was originally awarded Bangalore Metro Phase 2’s 216 coach rolling stock contract in December 2019 and had committed to manufacture 204 coaches (34 trains) in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. A ground breaking ceremony had been conducted twice, but the firm failed to setup the plant or tie up with a local partner.
- Contract: 6RS-DM
- Completion Period: 243 weeks (4.66 years)
- Pre-bid Meeting: May 23, 2022 at 11 AM
- Submission Deadline: June 30, 2022 at 3 PM
- Technical Bid Opening: June 30, 2022 at 3:30 PM
Brief Scope: Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of 72 Nos. of Standard Gauge Metro Cars and Training of Personnel under Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited Project Phase -2
There’s no official confirmation of BMRCL having officially cancelled CRRC’s contract, but this tender notice serves as a good indicator of it being terminated.
BMRCL plans to deploy the 72 new coaches from this contract alongside 42 new coaches it will receive from BEML. At this time I don’t see the Yellow Line opening up anytime prior to Q4 2023.

A little bit late but nevertheless good start. CRRC should be blacklisted by all the metros in the country. We had seen their delivery schedule during Noida metro commissioning. Totally idiot contractor
What can we do when it looks like our own Judges themselves are part of International Conspiracy to stop/delay any developmental work?
We are paying price for being too much Democratic.
Q4 2023. Thats really bad.
2023 Q4 ? It’s horrible. Bad planning from BMRCL like always.
BMRCL said that Yellow Line would be done by May 2023. Not Q4 2023
Hi TMRG
Any idea when does the civil works for yellow line be completed means track work depot and third rail.
Entire Yellow Line? No sooner than 2025. Silkboard – Jayadeva Hospital – RV Road section is furthest from the depot and most complex.
Depot works have been awfully slow. Civil work is still underway.
Hebbagodi Depot was 61% complete last month.. by this year, the entire depot will be done. From Bommasandra to CSB will be opened by End Q1 or Early Q2 of 2023..
BMRCL has been in the way of choosing their preferred vendors, instead of leaving the jurisdiction to its contractor CRRC, as some of the officials were involved in the bribes from the selected vendors… really bad deed from BMRCL. Design already close to frozen, but never, as BMRCL regarded some vendors will not pay black money from behind!
Leave aside the fact that CRRC is Chinese for few seconds. Their is pattern which has started to appear,
1) CRRC bids for a tender
2) Their bid is way less then others, in some cases their bid is less then metro authority’s
estimate.
3) They promise that they will set-up a factory in India
4) They delay the construction of factory and hence delay the deadline of metro project
5) They say they will import everything entirely from China and arm-twist the metro
authority to accept it.
6) They delay the delivery of rakes and sometimes send faulty rakes.
7) Repeat from 1)
We should ban CRRC from bidding in India. Kolkata, Nagpur, Noida are victims of this.
A CVC inquiry should initiated against the involved officials in these contracts of these metros. This is starting to emerge like a pattern all over India and companies who actually invested in manufacturing in India are being treated unfairly.
Great observation. Still remember their grandiose plans to setup shop in Butibori, MH and reneging their commitment.
Beml rocks….should get all metro projects.
Alstom builds better and also has a factory best to give it to them
BEML ONLY CAPABLE TO BUILD GOOD QUANTITY OF METRO CARS,

Ah, so BMRCL goes sheepishly back to BEML again. I hope BEML also gets the yellow line’s contract.
Also TMRG, have any bids been received for Pink+Blue lines’ rolling stock? Bids were invited really long ago.
Thay rolling stock tender is still pending
I was hoping a deal between JICA-GOI was reached in Q1. Didn’t happen. So we wait…

243 Weeks is too long just for 12 Train sets. I think its a typo.
And BTW, why and How come *243 Weeks* for mere 12 Trains (72 bogies) ?? BMRCL, rather than opening these Freaking Bids, should Blindly ask BEML to make CBTC Rakes for the Yellow Line.
BTW, the official bid was opened day b4 yesterday (30/6/22). Still a Hot Update didn’t come regarding anything in the internet
When the technical tender submission and what is the time you need to validate and when commercial bid will open. As mentioned 243 weeks means almost 5 years from notice to proceed. It means 5 years from now means in 2028 Jan, will it open for public service?
