Titagarh Dispatches Pune Metro’s 1st Train Built in India

Titagarh Wagons last week dispatched Pune Metro’s first locally built trainset from their West Bengal plant for Pune Metro’s Phase 1 lines connecting PCMC – Swargate and Vanaz – Ramwadi.

The light weight aluminium body train was unveiled in March at Titagarh’s plant in Uttarpara near Kolkata from where 31 of 34 3-coach trains will be manufactured.

Each coach is 75 feet long, 9.5 feet wide and weighs 45MT. This particular train-set will be dispatched to the Vanaz Depot (renamed to Hill View Depot) for servicing the partially operational 14.665 km Aqua Line (Vanaz – Ramwadi).

Pune Metro’s 102 coach rolling stock contract was awarded to Titagarh Firema in August 2019 with a value of approximately Rs. 1125 crore and 160 week delivery deadline. The first ever trainset built by Titagarh’s subsidiary Titagarh Firema SpA was unveiled in Caserta, Italy in August 2021.

Titagarh had unveiled the trains’ final design in August 2020 after multiple design iterations and claims these aluminum-body coaches with 15.5T axle load will be the lightest in India with the highest safety standards.

As shared earlier, They were originally aiming to deliver this train-set by 2021-end, so they’re running a little behind schedule. A full list of design features and passenger amenities of these energy efficient trains can be viewed here.
