11 Bidders for Shudmahadev – Dranga Tunnel’s Construction Work
11 civil construction companies have submitted bids to construct the 8 km Shudmahadev – Dranga Tunnel project after National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDC) opened technical bids on Friday.
This project on NH-244 (old NH-1B) in Jammu and Kashmir will consist of 2 tunnels between Chenani – Sudhmahadev – Goha. Along with other new tunnels (see map below), it’ll provide all weather connectivity and drastically shorten the travel time between Anantnag – Khellani.
NHIDC invited tenders for its construction in August 2022 with a Rs. 2598.54 crore estimate and 1460 day (4 year) completion deadline.

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.
Earlier this week, NHIDC received 10 bids for the construction of the 10.3 km Singhpora – Vailoo Tunnel project, which lies further north on NH-244.
