L&T Wins Mumbai’s Nariman Point – Cuffe Parade Bridge’s Contract

That was awfully quick! Larsen & Toubro on Thursday was declared as the lowest bidder to construct a new bridge between Nariman Point and Cuffe Parade (near Colaba) by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)

As shared earlier this week – this approximately 1.77 km 4 lane bridge will connect Marine Drive, where the 29.80 km Mumbai Coastal Road terminates further up north, with Captain Prakash Pethe Marg near Cuffe Parade Station – the southern terminus of Mumbai Metro’s Aqua Line (Line-3).

MMRDA had invited tenders for the bridge’s civil construction in November 2022 with a Rs. 315 crore estimate and 30 month (2.5 year) completion deadline.

Technical bids were opened on January 4 to reveal 2 bidders and technical bid evaluation was completed within 8 days, something that is unheard of. L&T beat J Kumar Infraprojects by just Rs. 1 crore when financial bids were opened on Thursday afternoon.

L&T’s bid was 1 crore higher than MMRDA’s estimate, which is negligible, so a contract should be awarded in the coming weeks without a lengthy financial bid evaluation period.

As shared earlier, I’m not a big fan of this bridge. Ideally the entire Back Bay should be reclaimed which would negate the cost of building the bridge’s sub and super-structure.

When there is a metro line coming up from navy nagar to cuffe parade then to vidhan bhawan, then why is the road link planned from cuffe parade to nariman point ??

This is indeed Waste of money, and not justified. Other projects like Coastal Road which some fake environmental activists protested against may have had a genuine justification but not this one.
