Megha & KNR Win Bangalore-Vijayawada Expressway’s Contracts

Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) and KNR Constructions Ltd. on Monday were declared as the lowest bidders for the civil construction work of 518 km Bengaluru – Vijayawada Expressway project’s packages 5, 6, 11, 13 and 14.

Megha Engineering scooped up 4 civil packages (P5, P6, P11 & P14) with a combined length of roughly 124 km, while KNR won 29 km P13 – all located in Andhra Pradesh.

This 6 lane access-controlled expressway will be built under Bharatmala Pariyojana (BMP) Phase 1 with a mix of brownfield-upgrade (36%) and greenfield (64%) routes. Its alignment will pass by Kadapa lending it the name of BKV Expressway.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had invited tenders for their construction under Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) in October & November 2022 with a 730 day (2 year) deadline.

Map via NHAI – view project information and tender list

The lowest bids in each case were either below (P6, P11, P13, P14) or negligibly higher (P5) than NHAI’s estimate, so I expect NHAI to award contracts in the coming weeks without a long financial evaluation period.

The project’s 343 km greenfield section connecting Kodikonda, AP to Addanki, AP has been divided up into 14 civil packages. With this development, financial bids for 9 packages have been opened, technical evaluation is underway for 1, while bidding is underway for another 4 – see a list and their contractors/status here.

GMR Media: – In the 5th package of the construction of Megha Company in the construction of Bangalore Vijayawada National Highway NH-544G, earth work ted construction with good gravel from chainage 117-500 to 119 is to be done, while the soil with loose stones is being brought and filled and rolled. Stone should not be more than 40mm in soil. But the cultivators are bringing soil with big stones and making ted. Everywhere you look, there is soil with big rocks. And people are questioning that the National Highway Authority officials are not the quality control officials. It is a well-known fact that good soil should be trodden and watered and rolled, but it is a well-known fact that there is no place to just water and roll on Ted. If the tankers are just like toys, they will remain there till evening if someone comes and moves them. Even the common people are discussing that construction with thousands of crores will last for ten years if the quality of supervision is good
