Varanasi – Kolkata Exprssway’s alignment by NHAI through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal

The bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor for each package.

Bids for Packages 11-13 in Jharkhand are currently scheduled to be opened on March 9, and bids for Package 5 in Bihar on March 10, so stay tuned!

Tender notices are still pending for the West Bengal section where land acquisition has typically been slow and painful. A list of Varanasi – Kolkata Expressway’s packages, their scope and contractor status can be viewed here.

It is nice to see the projects in eastern India is getting a head start. I hope the project is completed in time. (The costal road project connecting WB and Odisha seems like having a 10year deadline or so..). Most projects in WB are delayed due to land acquisition issue.

But why new one, the old one could also have been improved and save the cost, except new is shorter route than the NH 2. It could gave saved the procurement if kusan’s land too. I think land parcels, bring under givt plan should also focus how much less land should be taken from Kisan and still achieve tge narrative of NH expansions

Greenfield expressway is shorter & saves time….as well as promotes new areas of development, industry, etc….all the kisan land is not used for cultivation….only dedicated farm land owners can give profitable yields all the year round… without profit even a fertile land stays unused by non serious owner….
The older highway will be used also as 2 parallel highways will give better network & connectivity….thus with faster movement you get enhanced economic activity….
