L&T Casts Delhi – Meerut RRTS Package 3 Lot-1’s Final Segment
Larsen & Toubro last week celebrated casting the final of 5593 box segments for 82.15 km Delhi – Meerut RRTS project’s 15.84 km Package 3 Lot-1 in Muradnagar.
National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) had awarded 33 km Package 3’s Lot-1 and Lot-2’s construction contracts to L&T in March 2020 with a 910 day (2.5 year) deadline.
L&T’s team shortly after began setting up their casting yard, claimed to be one of India’s largest, near Muradnagar’s Manota village (view on Google Maps) with 18 long-line beds and 18 short-line beds.
Package 3’s Lot-1 connects Duhai Station (near Eastern Peripheral Expressway) to Modinagar North with 2 elevated stations at Muradnagar and Modinagar South.
L&T’s team had launched their first 10.5m precast segment in March 2021 between Piers P553 and P554 near Muradnagar.
With this development, segment casting activity has been completed for 3 out of 6 elevated packages. The other 2 include KEC’s Package 1 and APCO-CRFG JV’s Package 2 – which together form the line’s 17 km Priority Corridor between Sahibabad – Ghaziabad – Guldhar – Duhai where train testing has been underway since December 2022.
NCRTC recently shared a cool progress update video which shows there’s quite some station interior, architectural and system (PSD) finishing works left throughout. Their PR team was earlier promoting a March 2023 commercial opening, which was impossible to begin with, and has now switched to April – but looking at the quantum of work pending and safety inspection to follow, I see this opening no sooner than June at this time.

June opening still sounds good. The pace at which this priority section is constructed is amazing. I just hope the entire line becomes operational by end of next year. Difficult but possible for NCRTC.
