Delhi Metro Magenta Line: HGIEL Launches DC-01A’s 1st U-Girder
H.G. Infra Engineering (HGIEL) this week launched their first 27.90m long U-girder for completing pending construction work on a 3.5 km section of Delhi Metro Magenta Line’s 28.92 km Janakpuri West – RK Ashram extension.
This feat was recorded along the Outer Ring Road (ORR)’s northbound lanes in Paschim Vihar in just 9 months since the award of contract by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
This section with 4 elevated stations between Krishna Park Extension Ramp – Mangolpuri was originally a part of the Delhi Metro Phase 4 project‘s 12.375 km long Package DC-01 (Krishna Park Extension Ramp to Haiderpur-Badli Mor Station).
DMRC had awarded its construction contract in November 2019 to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation – KEC International (CCECC – KEC) JV with a deadline of 30 months.
Construction work was launched in December 2019 wherever a clear right-of-way was available, but portions of the Krishna Park Extension Ramp – Mangolpuri section were held up for years due to pending permission approvals to cut trees enroute. After negotiations between CCECC – KEC and DMRC, this section was offloaded from DC-01’s scope and spun off into its own separate package (DC-01A).
After a quick round of bidding, DMRC awarded HG Infra with DC-01A’s Rs. 412.11 crore contract in January 2023. HG’s team cast their first pier (P116) for the viaduct in June 2023 and cast their first U-girder at their Mundka Casting Yard in July.
DC-01’s scope includes the construction of 4 stations at Keshopur, Paschim Vihar, Peeragarhi & Mangolpuri:
HGIEL recorded this milestone in just 9 months since the award of contract. This is just a little longer than JMC’s record of 7 months on Kanpur Metro’s Package KNPCC-07, but way shorter than L&T’s feat of 16 months on Chennai Metro’s Package CP10-EV-03 or NCC’s feat of 17 months for Bangalore Metro’s Airport Line. You could argue though that HGIEL has more room to easily maneuver & stage construction as this section isn’t in the middle of an active roadway.

When is the Delhi Metro Phase 4 going to be completed? For real, not what they announced. There are supposed to be three priority lines and three other lines that the Gati Shakti NPG are monitoring. The same for the new Gurugram metro line and the Noida metro line.
Q4 2026 – Q1 2027. Still early days in tunneling, so let’s see how things progress. The Aravalis aren’t fun to dig through.
Good to know about this. Coz as far as I can see, Magenta line work near my home is going at a very slow pace. I remember a pit being dug for a pillar last year in November, and the pillar ia still not constructed there, in fact there is not even a structure there.
