5 Bidders for Mumbai Metro Line-4 Stations’ Finishing & PEB Work

5 firms on Thursday submitted bids for the architectural finishing and pre-engineered building (PEB) roof contract (CA-194) at 7 stations of the 32.32 km Mumbai Metro Line-4 project which will connect Wadala – Kasarvadavali via 32 stations.

These 7 elevated stations in the northern-end of Mumbai Metro’s Green Line are located at Mulund Fire Station, Mulund Naka, Teen Haath Naka (Thane), RTO Thane, Mahapalika Marg, Cadbury Junction and Majiwada.

All 7 station’s civil construction is being carried out through 6.099 km civil package CA-11 which was awarded to Tata Projects – CHEC JV way back in March 2018 with a 30 month deadline.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had invited bids for their architectural finishing contract in October 2023 with Rs. 198.19 crore estimate and 20 month deadline.

Bidders

  • Eagle Infra India Ltd
  • Godrej and Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd.
  • Landmark Corporation Pvt Ltd.
  • Relcon Infraprojects Ltd.
  • Tata Projects Ltd.

MMRDA’s Brief Scope: Architectural finishing and plumbing works including interior fit outs, facade etc. along with part design, fabrication, supply and erection of Pre-engineered structure including entry exit structures for 07 elevated stations viz. Mulund Fire Station, Mulund Naka, Teen Haath Naka (Thane), RTO Thane, Mahapalika Marg, Cadbury Junction and Majiwada of Package CA-11 of Metro Line-4 corridor [Wadala – Ghatkopar – Mulund – Thane – Kasaravadavali] of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

MMRDA and Systra MVA Consulting (Line-4’s Detailed Design Consultant) had appointed GPM Architects & Planners with designing 12 stations. I’m not sure if this design is current, but here are a few renderings from their website (see link for more).

This line along with all other lines in Mumbai are crawling, and I don’t see it opening up prior to 2026 as a re-tender notice by MMRDA is still pending for the line’s 234 coach rolling stock contract which was terminated by Alstom Transport in early 2022.

A list of Mumbai Metro Green Line’s packages (civil & systems) and their status can be viewed here.

I don’t understand why we people staying in the Central suburbs of Financial Capital of India are paying 30 – 40% premium for buying houses when smaller cities like Nagpur, Navi Mumbai and Pune all lhave already functional Metro network.

And we are Mumbai are still struggling with No metro, bad roads, overburdened Local Trains and the Present Government is not interested in at least Finishing Line 4. Disgusting.

Frankly speaking, MMRDA’s project planning and management is astonishing.

We have Line 4 where line is getting ready, depot work is starting but no signs of trainset contract.

Whereas we have L2B where depot and trains are ready, but no signs of metro line.

L6 is being constructed on an auto pilot mode.

Why can we make this line underground. There is a lot of traffic problem on EE Highway when before the start of construction of the Metro.

The flyovers which once solved the traffic problem now cause the traffic. A 5 lane road converses into 2.5 lanes.
