Bids Invited for Patna Metro’s Underground Contracts PC-05 & PC-06

It’s finally out! Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today invited bids for two underground tunneling contracts (PC05 & PC06) of Patna Metro’s Line-1 connecting Danapur Cantonment – Khemni Chak.

This approximately 8 km section of the 30.91 km Patna Metro Phase 1 project will connect Rukanpura Ramp and Mithapur Ramp via twin tunnels built by tunnel boring machines (TBMs).

Each package consists of 3 underground stations and comes with a 42 month construction deadline financed through a loan by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). They’re the final of 6 civil construction packages (see list) of the entire project to enter the tendering stage.

Looking at the tender documents, I see a station earlier planned at Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) near Mithapur is no longer in the works.

Package PC-05: Vikas Bhawan – Mithapur Ramp

• Estimate: Rs. 1683 crore (unconfirmed)
• Stations: Vikas Bhawan, Vidyut Bhawan & Patna Junction
• Pre-Bid Meeting: January 12, 2024 at 11 am
• Bid Submission Deadline: February 13, 2024 at 3 pm
• Technical Bid Opening: February 14, 2024 at 3 pm

Brief Scope: Design and Construction of Twin Tunnel by Shield TBM, Tunnel by Cut & Cover, Underground Ramp at Mithapur and Three Underground Metro Stations viz. Vikas Bhawan, Vidyut Bhawan & Patna Station including Architectural Finishing, Water Supply, Sanitary Installation & Drainage Works of Stations on Danapur to Khemnichak Corridor of Phase-I of Patna MRTS

Package PC-06: Rukanpura Ramp – Vikas Bhawan

• Estimate: Rs. 1377 crore (unconfirmed)
• Stations: Rukanpura, Raja Bazar & Patna Zoo
• Pre-Bid Meeting: January 15, 2024 at 11 am
• Bid Submission Deadline: February 13, 2024 at 3 pm
• Technical Bid Opening: February 14, 2024 at 3 pm

Brief Scope: Design and Construction of Twin Tunnel by Shield TBM, Tunnel by Cut & Cover, Underground Ramp at Rukanpura and Three Underground Metro Stations viz. Rukanpura, Raja Bazar & Patna Zoo including Architectural Finishing, Water Supply, Sanitary Installation & Drainage Works of Stations on Danapur to Khemnichak Corridor of Phase-I of Patna MRTS

Patna Junction Station will serve as an interchange between lines 1 & 2. 14.05 km Line-2’s tunnels connecting to Patna Junction are under construction by Larsen & Tourbo as part of Package PC-03 awarded in December 2021.

Rukanpura Ramp of PC-06 will be connected to elevated package PC-04’s western section, which is under construction by YFC Projects – Montecarlo JV. Mithapur Ramp will be connected to PC-04’s eastern section, also under construction by YFC Projects – Montecarlo JV.

With this development, the only major tender notice pending is for the project’s rolling stock (train) contract. The publishing of PC-05 & PC-06’s notices, after the approval of JICA, is a good indication to me that the trains’ tender notice is also around the corner. Stay tuned!
