1st Pile Cap Cast for Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train’s Sabarmati Bridge

Workers from IRCON International – Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon JV on Tuesday began pouring concrete to cast their first pile cap for Sabarmati River Bridge of the 508.17 km Mumbai – Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR Bullet Train) project.

The project’s Sabarmati Bridge on Package C7 will be roughly 315m long and consist of 4 massive piers to support the line’s Shinkansen trains to travel at high speeds of 320 km / hour. Each pier’s pile cap measures 20 meters x 20 meters – view satellite imagery on Google Maps.

18.133 km Package C-7 from chainage 489.467 to 507.600 is the project’s third longest civil package within Gujarat state, and lies entirely within the Ahmedabad metropolitan region with 2 elevated stations at Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.

India’s National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) had awarded IRCON – DRA Infracon JV with its Rs. 3429 crore construction contract in November 2021 with a 4.5 year construction deadline.

A total of 24 bridges will be constructed for the Mumbai – Ahmedabad high speed rail project over rivers like Narmada, Sabarmati, Mahi, Par, Kaveri, Purna Ambika, Daroatha, Daman Ganga, Tapi, Kim, Vishwamitri, Mohar, Vatrak and Meshwa.

The longest bridge in Maharashtra will be over Vaitarna River (2.28 km), while the longest bridge in Gujarat will be over the Narmada River (1.2 km) south of Bharuch.

So far construction has been completed on 6 bridges over Par River (Valsad district), Purna River (Navsari district), Mindhola River (Navsari district), Ambika River (Navsari district), Auranga River (Valsad district), and Venganiya River (Navsari district).
