CMRS Inspects Kolkata Metro’s Taratala – Majerhat Section of Purple Line
Janak Kumar Garg – the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) on Sunday completed a one-day final safety inspection of Kolkata Metro Line-3 (Purple Line)’s 1.25 km Taratala – Majerhat section.
This elevated section with 1 new station at Majerhat in the coming weeks will become the second leg of the Purple Line to open up after the 6.49 km Joka – Taratala section with 6 stations on Diamond Harbour Road which opened in November 2022.
Trial runs on it had started in mid-January 2024 and this Sunday’s statutory inspection involved assessing Majerhat Station’s passenger amenities & control facilities, a motor trolley inspection of critical systems such as track (by Rahee Infratech) and signaling. The inspection ended with a speed trial run at a maximum speed of 60 kmph.
Taratala – Majerhat’s viaduct was built by Simplex Infrastructures through a contract awarded way back in 2011 and consists of 1 new elevated station at Majerhat built by GPT Infraprojects which sits right on top of 7 tracks of the Indian Railways (view on Google Maps) connecting Sealdah – Budge Budge.
Few photos shared by Metro Railway, Kolkata on X:
I expect the CMRS’ team to submit their approval letter latest by Tuesday afternoon.
As I’ve mentioned in the past – approvals from the CMRS are always conditional in nature, so we’ll have to wait and see what conditions are laid out for ‘Metro Railway, Kolkata’ to rectify before the start of operations, how quickly remediation work is performed and a compliance report is sent back to the CMRS.
Here are some snaps of Majerhat Station which was originally awarded for construction to Gammon India in April 2012 under Package JMS-2, abandoned in 2018, and re-tendered to GPT Infraprojects.

What is the current status of Mominpur station progress???
Has RVNL and Bengal government has sorted out the land issue???
And what about the current progress of the underground stretch of this route?
Has the work resume yet in Maidan area?
It appears that the state govt. is no longer as interested in the project as it was before. The MLA of Behala(W) is in jail and to compound matters many stupid idiots were moving courts pleading for stoppage of work in the maidan area in the name of environment protection. This project looks DOOMED!
