L&T Launches Delhi – Meerut RRTS Package 7 Reach-1’s Final Segment
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) last Friday celebrated launching their final precast box segment for 82.15 km Delhi – Meerut RRTS (RapidX) project’s Package 7 Reach-1 in Meerut.
2.35 km Reach-1 of the project’s Package 7 connects Shatabdi Nagar and Brahmapuri Ramp via 1 elevated station at Brahmapuri, north of which this major package-level construction milestone was recorded between piers P1392 – P1393 using a 10.5m wide segment.
The bulk of Package 7 (roughly 8 kms) lies north of Meerut city and connects Begumpul Ramp – Modipuram Depot. L&T has so far completed 145/296 spans using 10 launching gantry (LG) cranes and plans to deploy another 2 LGs to speed up construction.
National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) had awarded Package 7’s construction contract to L&T in November 2020 with a 2.5 year deadline. For Reach-1’s construction, L&T’s team utilized a casting yard at Shatabdi Nagar (view on Google Maps) to churn out box segments.
Reach-1’s sole station at Brahampuri will only be serviced by 3-coach Meerut Metro trains.
Some snaps shared by a follower:
Larsen & Toubro in January launched Package 3 Lot-2’s final segment, so with this development on Package 7 the project’s viaduct has effectively been completed all the way from Sahibabad Ramp to Brahmapuri Ramp – a distance of approximately 51 km.
This route includes KEC – CCECC JV’s Package 1, APCO – CRFG JV’s Package 2, Larsen & Toubro’s Package 3 Lot-1 & Lot-2 and Larsen & Toubro’s Package 7 Reach-1.
As shared in the past, trial runs (train and system testing) have been underway since December 2023 on a 25 km route between Duhai and Meerut South stations located on Package 3’s Lot-1 and a portion of Lot-2. With the Lok Sabha elections around the corner, we’ll soon find out if they get rushed into opening or not. Stay tuned!
