11 Bidders for Bhubaneswar Metro’s Contracts BBC-04 & BBC-05

Eleven civil engineering firms in June submitted a total of 21 bids to construct packages BBC-04 and BBC-05 of Bhubaneswar Metro’s Phase 1 project which will connect Trisulia Square – Biju Patnaik Airport via 20 elevated stations.

7.27 km long Package BBC-04, located in the middle of Bhubaneswar Metro’s 26 km Line-1, will link Acharya Square and KIIT Square via 7 elevated stations, while 10.970 km Package BBC-05 at the northern-end of Line-1 will link KIIT Square and Trisulia Square via 6 elevated stations.

Package BBC-05 is the longest of all 3 main-line civil packages. Its scope also includes a ramp leading to Phulapokhari Depot & Workshop which will be built by M I A Construction under Package BBC-02 on a 16 hectare parcel.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had invited bids for both packages’ construction in March 2024 with a 36 month deadline. Technical bids were opened on June 19 to reveal the following 11 bidders. Ranjit Buildcon was the only outlier – they did not bid for Package BBC-05.

Jayadev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square and KIIT Square (excluding Architectural finishing) from Chainage 7747.00 to 15017.00 of Bhubaneswar Metro Phase-I MRTS

Package BBC-05

Estimated Cost: Rs. 869.71 Crore

DMRC’s Brief Scope: Part Design and Construction of Elevated Viaduct and Six Elevated Stations viz. Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Barang Station, Phulapokhari, Trisulia Square (excluding Architectural finishing) from Chainage 15017.00m to 25987.78m and including ramp for Depot entry of Bhubaneswar Metro Phase-I MRTS

All stations’ exact location has been marked out on Google Maps over here.

The bids have since mid-June been undergoing evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When completed, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor for each package.

Technical bids for package BBC-03 (Capital Hospital – Acharya Vihar Square) were also opened on June 19 to reveal 12 bidders for it – see details. So essentially 12 firms submitted a total of 33 bids across 3 civil packages related to the main-line’s construction work.

    So 10 bidders have put in bids for all 3 parts. Ranjit Buildcon for 2 parts, BBC-3 and 4, and Tata Projects for a single part of BBC-3.

    Overall very good response. Wonder if DMRC will end up choosing the same company for all 3 sections.

      I didn’t see any clause in the tender documents prohibiting a firm from getting awarded multiple contracts
