APCO Wins Madh – Versova Cable-Stayed Bridge’s Contract in Mumbai

APCO Infratech today was declared as the lowest bidder for the civil construction of a new 1.53 km cable-stayed bridge between Madh Island – Versova in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

This new 4 lane bridge by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM or BMC) will have an approximately 300 meter long cable-stayed section over Versova Creek (view on Google Maps) in Mumbai’s western suburbs.

The viaduct’s length will be approximately 725m long on the Versova-end and approximately 325m long on the Madh Island-end. The 27.45 m wide bridge will consist of 1.5 m footpath (sidewalk) on either side for pedestrians.

MCGM had invited tenders for its civil construction contract in March 2024 with a Rs. 1800 crore estimate and 3 year construction deadline. Technical bids were opened on June 20 to reveal 4 bidders.

APCO’s bid of Rs. 2029.80 crore was 12.76% higher than BMC’s estimate of Rs. 1800 crore, which is negligible when it comes to projects in Mumbai, so I reckon this will be awarded after negotiations without entering into a time-consuming re-tender.

BMC had received Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance for the project from India’s Central Government in February 2024. The bridge will be connected to BMC’s 22.93 km Versova – Dahisar Coastal Road project for which financial bids were opened in December 2023.
