Bangalore Metro Madavara Extension’s CMRS Inspection Completed

AM Chowdhary – the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) and his team today completed the final safety inspection for Bangalore Metro Green Line’s Reach 3C in just one day, instead of the planned two days.

3.03 km long Reach 3C connecting Nagasandra – Madavara is the smallest elevated extension of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project. It consists of 3 elevated stations on Tumkur Road at Manjunathnagar, Chikkabidarakallu (formerly Jindal) and Madavara (formerly BIEC). Trial runs (train testing) on it had started in mid-August 2024.

The CMRS team’s statutory inspection involved assessing the line’s viaduct (built by Simplex Infrastructure in 88ish months as opposed to 27 in the contract), motor trolley inspection of its standard gauge tracks (installed by Texmaco Rail & Engineering), station facilities, amenities, safety and control room features. It ended with a speed trial in which its BEML inspection train clocked speeds reaching 80 kmph.

Some snaps shared by BMRCL via their press release:

If you’ve been following my site, then you’d know approvals from the CMRS are always conditional in nature – a rejection is never issued.

I expect the CMRS to submit their report to the BMRCL by the end of Friday. Next steps for BMRCL would include rectifying any deficiencies and sending back their compliance report to the CMRS.

BMRCL hasn’t publicly announced a plan or deadline for operationalizing this section, but it should happen in the second half of October. The exact launch date depends on the nature of deficiencies found, how quickly BMRCL rectifies those, and finally the availability of local ministers who’d want to present for the launch event.

When operationalized, Bangalore Metro’s network will become approximately 75.2 km strong with the Green Line becoming 33 km long connecting Madavara – Silk Institute with 32 stations.
