6 Bidders for Bangalore Metro Phase 3’s Design Consultant Contracts

Six firms today submitted bids for the three Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contracts of the 44.65 km Bangalore Metro Phase 3 project after Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) opened technical bids.

Bangalore Metro’s Phase 3 in western Bengaluru includes the construction of a new 32.15 km Orange Line connecting Kempapura – JP Nagar 4th Phase via 22 stations along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), and a new 12.5 km line connecting Kadabagare – Hosahalli via 9 stations.

A significant portion of the viaduct for both lines will be built as a double-decker structure for vehicles (level-1) and metro trains (level-2).

BMRCL had invited bids for bids for both line’s design via 3 contracts in October with a 1460 day (4 year) contract duration. They received 6 bids for each contract when technical bids were opened this morning, so 18 bids in total.

Package DDC-1’s scope includes the Orange Line’s 17.121 km section from JP Nagar 4th Phase Station to BDA Complex Nagarbhavi Station, and DDC-2 includes the Orange Line’s 12.848 km section from Sumanahalli Cross Station to Kempapura Station. Package DDC-3 includes designing the entire 12.5 km Kadabagare – Hosahalli line.

Note: The list below shows lead bidders only. Some might have bid in a JV with other firms. The international ones would have definitely bid in a JV with their Indian subsidiary.

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When completed, the financial bids of the technically-qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely design consultant for each package.

The design consultant’s role will include, but is not limited to, producing and proposing alternate designs of all civil, architectural, building services, electrical and mechanical (E&M) works.

I expect consultants to be appointed by mid-2025 and the first civil construction tender notice to be published no sooner than Q1 2026.

Geotechnical soil investigation work along both lines’ routes has been underway via 4 contracts since September by SECON, Manglam Consultancy Services, and Myrtle Project and Consultancy – see some snaps here.

Why is there such a yawning gap between Koramangala and Marathahalli? Are there no lines planned to serve this crucial area?

@nachiketa That’s because it’s HAL/Defence/Old Airport land and nothing can go over or under it..

        Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.

I don’t think that’s it – Dehli’s airport express line and Pink line both go through the cantonment and defense areas (much more sensitive considering there are Defense HQs there)

Probably because this corridor doesn’t have a lot of traffic? Maybe because bunch of this is institutional area with not a lot of people visiting, so cost-benefit wise this probaby doens’t make sense.

Not really that’s the inner ring road stretch has one of bangalore first tech parks- the embassy golf link & is the heart of Bangalore’s central business district. The tech park has a footfall close to 30,000. Also it’s the same stretch connecting Indranagar & kormangala passing through ejipura all very densely populated areas. Also the most happening areas of Bangalore.

The reason they are not able to put up a metro line is
          1. Unavailable of land. Which needs to be primarily obtained from the army
          2. The never finishing ejipura flyover needs to be demolished & be made into a multi level metro line.
          3. Political conflict & lack of interest.

Singing seriously wrong with planning team. Purple line should get extended till OMR or Hoskote as soon as possible. It will bring huge relief to Belathur, Seegehalli, Katamnallur residents. Most importantly, it will give some breathing space to poor Kadugodi bridge which gets choked almost everyday.

BMRCL should start the DPR for Phase 4

    Possible lines must be
SMVT to Gunjur via HAL , Varthur
    Purple line extension to Hoskote
    Challagata to bidadi
    Green line extension to Nelamangala
Pink line extension to jigani in the south and yelankha in the north
    Yellow line extension to attibele

Only then Bangalore traffic nightmare will be solved

All possible new routes should be explored and executed, the formula should be expansion happening because of infrastructure and not the other way, bmrcl and namma metro should also explore for multi level parking for metro users, commercial utilisation of metro stations, last mile connectivity solutions linked to mobility digital cards, definitely the autorickshaw unions should be kept out of discussions as the driver’s union has only one goal of fleecing the metro users, getting bmtc into their last mile connectivity solutions is welcome
