GR Infra Begins Nagpur Metro Phase 2’s Work for Package C2

GR Infraprojects Ltd. (GRIL) in December-end officially started construction activities for Package C-02 of the 43.8 km Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project.

This major milestone was recorded roughly two months after Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL or Maha-Metro) awarded GRIL with Package C-02’s Rs. 903.53 crore contract with a 2.5 year deadline.

The scope of Package C-02 purely involves construction of a 17.624 km viaduct within Nagpur Metro Orange Line’s 18.7 km Reach 1A connecting Khapri – Butibori MIDC ESR. The construction of 8 elevated metro stations en route between Jamtha and Butibori will be carried out via Package C-09.

Reach 1A’s viaduct along NH-44 will consist of two special spans over the Indian Railways lines with lengths of 79m and 100m, and a 1.14 km long 6 lane double-decker section for vehicles (level 1) and CRRC metro trains (level 2).

Per GRIL’s construction plan, they will cast a total of 5144 segments and 746 PSC girders from 8 long-line casting beds and 16 short-line beds.

This package’s construction will be financed by a $200mn loan approved by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in July 2024.

This is the second section of Phase 2 and Orange Line where construction activities have started. D.P. Jain has since early 2024 been working on building 6.92 km Package C-01 of Reach 2A (Automotive Square – Kanhan River).
