Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train’s Bridge over NH-64 Completed by MGCPL

MG Contractors Pvt. Ltd. (MGCPL) this weekend completed building a 210 meter long balanced cantilever (CLC) bridge under Package P1(C) for the 508.17 km Mumbai – Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR Bullet Train) project.

This 4-span prestressed concrete (PSC) bridge for GAD-33 over national highway NH-64 is located west of Nadiad in Gujarat’s Kheda District. Its construction site is located between Anand-Nadiad and Ahmedabad Bullet Train stations – view satellite imagery on Google Maps.

Like other recently completed bridges over NH-48, this bridge too has a configuration of 40m + 65m + 65m + 40m. Its 72 segments with variable heights were cast offsite and launched one-by-one to allow vehicular traffic on the roadway to pass by uninterrupted.

India’s National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) had awarded M G Contractors with bridge package P-1(C)‘s Rs. 261.24 crore contract in August 2021.

P1-C’s scope involves the construction of 1 prestressed concrete (GAD 33) and 4 steel truss bridges (GAD 28, 1967, 31 and 32) within 87.569 km Package C6 (Vadodara – Ahmedabad) which is under construction by Larsen & Toubro.

With this development, 1 PSC bridge and 3 steel truss bridges have been completed so far for Package P1(C). Only the launching of GAD-32’s steel truss bridge is now pending between chainage 449+500 and 449+700.

Here’s a list of P1(C)’s completed bridges:

• GAD-31 (99.6m, 1486 MT) – over Vadodara – Ahmedabad Railway Line near Nadiad in April 2024
• GAD-1967 (130m, 3098 MT) – over Delhi – Mumbai Expressway near Vadodara in June 2024
• GAD-28 (60m, 645 MT) – over Bajva – Chhayapuri Railway Line near Vadodara in October 2024
• GAD-33 (210m) – over National Highway NH-64 near Nadiad in January 2025 (this post!)

Overall, GAD-33 is the 4th PSC bridge to be completed after GAD-11, GAD-10 and GAD-9 – all located within Package P1(B) which is embedded within Larsen & Toubro’s 237.1 km civil Package C4 (Vadodara – Zaroli village on MH/GJ border).
