3 Bidders for Bengaluru Suburban Rail’s Head Hardened Rails Contract

Three firms on Friday submitted bids to supply 19000 MT of head-hardened rails for the 149.35 km Bengaluru Suburban Rail project after Karnataka’s Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) opened technical bids.

These special tracks will be installed on the project’s 23.86 km Corridor 2 (Mallige Line) connecting Baiyyappanahalli – Chikkabanavara and 46.88 km Corridor 4 (known as Kanaka Line) connecting Heelalige – Rajanukunte.

The head-hardened rails will be of 60E1 – 1080 grade as per Indian Railway Specification T-12-2009, and manufactured through a special heat treatment process to provide additional strength, lower residual stress, elongate track-life and minimize maintenance.

K-RIDE had invited tenders for its supply in September 2024 with a Rs. 135.30 crore estimate and 1 year deadline.
