4 Bidders for Chennai Metro Line-4’s E&M Underground Station Contract

Four firms on Wednesday submitted bids for Chennai Metro Line-4’s underground electrical & mechanical (E&M), plumbing and fire protection contract after Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) opened technical bids.

26.09 km long Line-4 of the 116.1 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project will connect Light House – Poonamallee Bypass through 30 stations. It will consist of a 10 km underground section with twin tunnels connecting Power House Ramp – Light House Station.

The scope of this contract C4-E&M-06 includes system works at 8 of its 10 underground stations located at Light House, Kutchery Road, Alwarpet, Bharatidasan Road, Boat Club, Nandanam, Panagal Park, and Kodambakkam. All of these stations are under construction by ITD Cementation India as part of packages UG-01 (5.15 km) & UG-02 (4.87 km) awarded in January 2022.

CMRL had invited tenders for this systems contract in November 2024 with an unknown estimate and 1630 day (4.46 year) completion deadline.

CMRL’s Brief Scope: Supply, installation, testing, commissioning and training of electrical, plumbing and fire protection works for 8 underground stations from Light House metro to Kodambakkam metro including bored tunnel between stations, cut & cover box, u section and ramp (chainage 0 -173 m to 9+949 m) for Corridor- 4 Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase II

The bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

Back in July 2024, ABS Fujitsu General was declared as the lowest bidder for the same 8 stations’ ventilation and air conditioning (VAC), tunnel ventilation system (TVS), electrical and SCADA system contract C4-VAC&TVS-12.
