Nagpur Metro Gaddigodam Bridge’s Trial Assembly Completed
Fabtech Engineering Pvt. Ltd. last week completed trial assembly and load testing for an open web girder steel bridge for Nagpur Metro Phase 1’s Orange Line at Gaddigodam railway crossing.
This 80m long bridge weighs 1650 MT and will support the vehicle level of a 4.375 km multi-level viaduct under construction by Afcons Infrastructure.
Afcons was awarded a Rs. 573 crore contract in 2017 for the project’s 7.144 km Reach-2 (Sitabuldi – Automotive Square Station) primarily on Kamptee Road with 7 elevated stations.
The team had started piling work for the bridge’s foundation in March 2020 – a delay caused by pending approvals from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which finally came through in November 2019.
Afcons’ scope of work includes building the 4.375 km double-decker viaduct and its approach ramps which will be 2.947 km (CH:673.910 to 3620.950) and 80m (3962.558 to 4042.558) long. The structure will start from St. Francis De Sales Cathedral (near Gaddigodam Station) and end at Automative Square, with stations at Kadvi Square, Indora Square, Nari Road and Automotive Square.
The railway underbridge (RuB) at Level-2 already exists onsite and is locally known as the Gurdwara Bridge.
The new open web bridge by Fabtech has a height of 14 meters and width of 18 meters. The team claims to have completed fabrication and erection within 4.5 months at their facility located in Gangapur near Butibori in Maharashtra.
Few snaps shared by Fabtech:
The bridge will now be dismantled, brought on-site and reassembled for launch in Q3 2022.
