Happy New Year 2016! Some Key TMRG Website Updates
This is going to be a really short & quick post.
First of all, I’d like to wish each and everyone of you a Happy New Year! 🙂 I also want to make a quick shout-out to all the engineers & construction workers who’ve built and continue to build metro systems across all cities & now towns in India.
Here are 2 key site updates I’d like to share with you which some of you might have already noticed. The genesis of these updates come from my first Feedback Request in October and have admittedly taken a lot more time to test, write and publish than I would have liked.
1) The font style has been changed to become more legible.
2) I’ve started creating and linking information pages for each metro system in India. I started from the top of the list in the ‘Cities’ tab (that would mean Ahmedabad) and at the time of writing this post, I’ve made my way down to Hyderabad. These information pages contain details on what is built, what is under construction and what is planned in each city along with a bunch of maps showing the alignment of the metro lines. With this initiative, I hope to provide a good overview of each metro project so that it becomes easier to follow my posts.
To access these pages, simply hover over the ‘Cities’ tab at the top of this page → hover over a city’s name → click on the ‘Information’ link to its right as demonstrated below:
And if you click on the ‘Construction Updates’ link, then that will take you to the archive page for each city. Over the next couple weeks, information pages for all cities listed below Hyderabad will also be added, so do keep checking back!
I’m always looking for suggestions & feedback, so please feel free to drop me a message below in the comments section or send me an email via the contact page. 🙂

Hi TMRG,
I’ve enjoyed giving your site a daily look-see.
Thank you for maintaining it so carefully and faithfully.
नया साल मुबारक हो!
Peter
That’s good to know! आपको भी नया साल मुबारक हो!
Hey…Happy New Year to you too! The changes you have done are good! Keep rocking with daily updates! 🙂
Glad you like the changes!
Wish you a very happy New Year,. You have done an incredible job of keeping us updated with the real information throught the year 2015. Wish you good luck and best wishes for your future endeavours.
Thanks for your warm message, Navdeep!
The new format is really informative. I would also like to see the following details.
1. It would be good if we can see information on what was the first commit and how the dates changed after each review. Since this information is not there in a consolidated form, the authorities keep on giving some unrealistic dates which they themselves know is not practical. You might have guessed it right that i’m from Bangalore 🙂
2. Comparative performance of each metro construction. Kind of like a competitive information which would like us to gauge how things are progressing.
Looking at the blogs it doesn’t appear to be a part time effort. Just out of curiosity, i would like you to add “about me” in a little bit more detail. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a team working to gather the information. How do you gather all the information including the insider information?
Since we always talk about “intolerance”, did you ever face intolerance since you put some unpolished details out in the public?
Hi Prasanth,
1. Going forward, I’ll try including those details within each post. As you would have noticed, I do indicate if a metro org has been misleading the public; case in point: the BMRCL which lied through its teeth to PM Modi about Phase 1’s completion.
2. You might like this. I will soon include this within a tab of its own with other reports/charts.
This blog is purely a part-time effort with no team involved. I’m in regular touch with project engineers and that’s where a lot of the information & images are generated from. I haven’t faced any outrage, but I have been advised to hold-off on publishing damaging information about contractor issues which are present in each project – be it Kochi or Delhi.
Nice suggestion PRASANTH.
Mr.TMRG the comparison you have done is also nice.
Happy New Year TMRG.
You are doing the great work by gathering information of all metro systems of India by updating it precisely.
Jai Hind.
Thanks for your warm message, Bhawin!
A note or two on court cases concerning failures [or defalcations] on the part of contractors [or politicians] would be interesting.
Do you have any idea or can you make an estimate of what percentage of appropriated funds are properly dispensed on metro projects?
Local regulations and union “work rules” exhaust [ie, waste] a heavy fraction of funding for metro projects in my country [USA], especially in NYC. I wonder what the situation is in India.
Hi Peter, luckily there hasn’t been any defalcation case till now as money to contractors is disbursed in tranches based on completion milestones. There have been two instances in Chennai where the contractor has stopped/slowed work. In both cases, the contracts were re-awarded. All appropriated funds are accounted for and details for them can be obtained by filing a RTI (right to information) request. In India, delays in kick-starting projects are responsible for cost-escalation due to rising property rates, labor & construction material cost. Once a project starts, land acquisition always exhausts more money than appropriated due to pure greed by owners who use different unscrupulous tactics to extract more money.
Happy New Year!
Your article is very clear and straight forward to understand the Indian Metro Projects.
very good!
Hi TMRG,
I am a regular visitor of your website as I am a metro rail enthusiast mainly due to the reason that my hometown(Kochi) is going to have a functioning metro rail system shortly. You are doing a great job in providing information regarding the various metro rail projects in our country. Keep up the good work 🙂
Is it possible for you to do a comparison between the rakes used by the different metro rail projects with information like coach configuration, length, width, power supply, capacity, pics etc?
Thanks,
Manu
Hi Manu, thanks for your message – I’m glad you like the site! What you suggested is definitely on my mind. As time permits, I’ll add an info page on all rakes/rolling stock.
Thank you 🙂
Hi there. Hats off to you for compiling all the info in such intricate details and that too on all the projects! Keep up the good work. Anyways do you have any info about the work being held up at trilokpuri on pink line of Delhi metro?
Thanks for your message! That section is still held up with no recent update on a settlement. Check out this post highlighting the issue present there.
Dear TMRG,
First of all, absolutely stellar job Mate!! Its the most comprehensive, single point website for metro news (Some of the professional guys charging fees out there dont have this much information!!)
May I request you to please add in your overview section details about which line is undergound and which line is elevated. I have gone through the maps and I did not see any reference of alignment of the current/proposed route.
Thanks. Keep Rocking!!
Thanks for your message, Abhishek! I’ll make sure to add those details when I get time for the information pages – hopefully this coming weekend. If you need specific information about a project or line, then please drop me a message via the “Contact Me” form at the top of the page. That’s the quickest option if you need specific info asap.
it is sad that ‘Ramadevi chauraha’ is not included in kanpur metro route although it is one the busiest route and a large number of population stays in Ramadevi area.
what to do? i mean how to suggest the designers of the route for kanpur metro to rethink and inculed ramadevi in it?
Mr TMRG,
I came across your site thru accident !
This is fantastic site!!.
It is great source of information for all interested people like me.
I suggested about the site to one of my relatives who is executing New York Metro.
All his queries about Mumbai Metro were sufficiently answered ( he is originally a Mumbai Guy ).
Keep up the Good work !
Shree
Glad you and your relative likes it! He/She can always ask me questions using the ‘Contact Me’ link at the top of the site.
