Four months after Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. unveiled the Rolling Stock’s design, the first train has been unveiled!
The Minister of Urban Development, Venkaiah Naidu, along with India’s Metroman, E. Sreedharan, and executives from Alstom and Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. yesterday unveiled and flagged off the first metro train for Kochi’s 25.6 km metro line! This train is part of the 75 coach (25 train-sets x 3 coach) contract that Alstom India had won in August 2014 after quoting a price of Rs 633 crore. The motor-car of this particular train was recently spotted being readied last week.
The 2.9m wide & 65m long trains will be able to accommodate up to 975 passengers with 140 of them seated.

The coaches will now begin a 7-10 day long journey to Kochi’s Muttom Depot which is being readied for its arrival. After initial inspection, the train will begin testing within the depot’s 975m test track. Once the ramp connecting the depot to the mainline is ready in March/April, the train will begin testing on the 7 km stretch between Muttom & Edappally.
