Afcons Begins Kochi Metro Phase 2’s Work in Kakkanad

Afcons Infrastructure on Wednesday bored their first test pile for the civil construction of Kochi Metro’s Phase 2 project under Package KBC3.

This exciting development comes barely two weeks after Afcons was awarded Phase 2’s Rs. 1141.32 crore construction contract by Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. (KMLR) with a tight 600 day construction deadline.

Kochi Metro’s Phase 2 will feature a 11.2 km new elevated line, named Pink Line, with 11 stations connecting JLN Stadium – Kakkanad – Infopark (Smart City). 

Following a puja around 10:30 am, Afcons bored their first test pile at Kunnumpuram neighborhood of Kakkanad in the presence of officials from KMRL and SYSTRA (General Consultant of Phase 2).

Kochi Metro Pink Line’s stations will come up at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (new station box next to Blue Line), Palarivattom Junction, Alinchuvadu (formerly Palarivattom Bypass), Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Padamughal (formerly Kunnumpuram), Kakkanad Junction, Cochin SEZ (Special Economic Zone), Chittethukara, KINFRA Park (formerly Rajagiri), and InfoPark / Smart City (connected to Kochi Water Metro).

Arun Soil Lab Pvt. Ltd. is currently conducting geotechnical soil investigation at multiple spots along the line’s alignment to revalidate KMRL’s prior investigation.

The start of actual construction for the line’s substructure (foundation) is at least a month or two away from starting.
