GR Infraprojects Wins Nagpur Metro Phase 2 Package C-02’s Contract

September 23, 2024 Original Post: GR Infraprojects Ltd. (GRIL) was today declared as the lowest bidder to construct Package C2 of the 43.8 km Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL or Maha-Metro)
The scope of Package C-02 purely involves construction of a 17.624 km viaduct within Nagpur Metro Orange Line’s 18.7 km Reach 1A connecting Khapri – Butibori MIDC ESR. The construction of 8 elevated metro stations en route between Jamtha and Butibori will be carried out via a dedicated station package C-09.
Reach 1A’s viaduct along NH-44 will consist of two special spans over the Indian Railways lines with lengths of 79m and 100m, and a 1.14 km long 6 lane double-decker section for vehicles (level 1) and CRRC metro trains (level 2).
MahaMetro had invited bids for Package C-2’s construction in March 2024 with a Rs. 945 crore estimate and 912 day (2.5 year) construction deadline.
Technical bids were opened in June 2024 to reveal 6 firms had submitted bids. Among them, the bid submitted by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) was found technically non-compliant to the tender’s conditions and was disqualified.

Maha-Metro’s Brief Scope: Design and construction of elevated metro viaduct of length 17.624 km between ch.21256.814 to ch.38881.7 including railway spans of length 79m & 100m and 6-lane double-decker portion with vehicular underpass (vup) from ch. 25755.211 to 26895.211 for a total length of 1.14km in Reach-1A of NMRP Phase-2
GRIL’s bid of Rs. 904 crore was 4.39% lower than Maha-Metro’s estimate of Rs. 945 crore, so a contract should be awarded in the coming weeks without a long financial bid evaluation period. This contract will be financed by a $200mn loan approved by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in July 2024.
With this development, I expect basic ground work to begin in November 2024 and full-fledged construction work in Q1 2025.
Reach 1A’s 8 elevated metro stations will be constructed at Ashokvan, Dongargaon, Mohgaon, Meghdoot MIDC, Butibori Police Station, MHADA Colony, MIDC KEC and MIDC ESR.
Bidding is underway for their construction via Package C-09 and technical bids are currently planned to be opened on October 3. Back in April, Enia Design was declared as the lowest bidder for those station’s Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) as part of contract DDC-03.
