Largest Pier Cap in India Cast for Noida Metro
On July 19, engineers and construction workers from the CEC-SAM JV cast the largest ever pier cap to be used in India for Noida’s 30 km new metro line! This pier cap weighing 160 tonnes is the 1st of 105 special pier caps that will support the platform level of the line’s 21 stations. Traditional pre-cast pier caps used for Indian metro lines’ viaducts (eg. Kochi, Noida, Lucknow and Delhi) are roughly 11 m long x 2.5 m wide, but the ones cast here for the station’s structure are 17.5 m long x 2.9 m wide.
The pier cap was designed by the TCPL-Systra JV
Spanish firm Ayesa which won the design contract in May 2015, and was cast at package NC-03’s casting yard located adjacent to Greater Noida’s Sector Theta II.
This pier cap will be launched at Greater Noida’s Alpha 1 station in the next 2 weeks. Stay tuned for a follow-up post on that!

what is the advantage of using such large pier.
Far quicker and economical compared to casting in-situ (on-site).
Write about that partly demolished building when you check the contractor.
Sure, will do.
How much work has been completed till date on the noida -greater noida metro line???
Sorry, I don’t have a % complete figure. DMRC/NMRC officials are aiming to launch this line 2017-end.
hi tmrg, when will construction start for knowledge park 5.
Depends on when the DPR is presented to & approved by the state government. They’ll first test the waters with this 30 km section and then push for the KP-5 extension. Could take 2, 5 or maybe 10 years for the proposal to be approved and construction to start.
It’s nice to know this information as civil structural engineer ,
I’m glad you like the post!
Is it possible that DMRC start opearting the section between kalindi kunj and kalakaji by end of the year but include botanical garden- kalindikunj by early next year?
DMRC hasn’t revealed its game plan, but for this small section to be successful, they’ll have to launch operations between Kalkaji & Botanical Gardens. I’m looking at a Q2 2017 launch.
Thanks for your reply so means it can be done but not financially viable to run this small section.
Which metro station will be nearest to Techzone 1 , Greater Noida
Hi, the Knowledge Park II station will be the closest. It’s coming up close to the Noida-Gr.Noida’s interchange with the Yamuna Expressway.
Hi, can you also give information on how/where is cut-bend steel reinforcement is being procured for these casting yards namely NC01 NC02 NC03.
No idea. I’d recommend contacting CEC-SAM’s office or a procurement officer at the casting yards.
