Lucknow’s Bapu Bhawan TBM Shaft Gets Ready for Deploying TBMs
The Tata – Gülermak JV, responsible for constructing Lucknow Metro’s 3.44 km underground section between Charbagh and KD Singh Babu Stadium, has almost completed constructing the Bapu Bhawan TBM shaft for deploying two Terratec Tunnel Boring Machines. Excavation work for this shaft started in late July 2016 and now only some minor concreting work in and around the base-slab is pending.
This 22m deep shaft is adjacent to the Sachivalaya (State Secretariat) Station’s site, and from here TBMs S52 and S53 will be launched on twin 780m drives towards the Hazratganj Station in February 2017 – see the entire tunneling plan here.
Update – the contractor is aiming to commission its 1st TBM on 15 January, 2017.
In related news, both TBMs S52 and S53 have arrived at Tata-Gulermak’s yard in Lucknow from Delhi and once the above shaft is ready with a cradle, their parts will be brought on-site and lowered into it. Here are some images from another section of the yard where precast rings to build the tunnels are being cast since November. As of December 24, 648 segments to form 108 rings, where 1 ring is 1.4m wide, have been cast and neatly stacked up.
