Tata-CCECC Lowest Bidder for Ahmedabad’s Thaltej-West Ramp Stretch
Another missing piece of Ahmedabad Metro’s 39.259 km Phase 1 project has been filled. Yesterday, the Tata Projects Ltd (TPL) – China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) JV emerged as the lowest bidder for constructing the 20.737 km east-west line’s 8.21 km Thaltej Gam – West Ramp stretch after the Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar & Ahmedabad (MEGA) opened all financial bids submitted by different infrastructure companies.
MEGA had invited bids for the construction of this package in July 2016, and at this time, it isn’t known which other firms qualified to the financial bid stage. Whenever that information or their financial bid values are available, I’ll update this post.
Update – TPL-CCECC JV was award a Rs. 721 crore contract on January 25, 2017.
Besides the elevated viaduct & crucial bridge over the Sabarmati River, the TPL-CCECC JV will be responsible for constructing 7 stations at Thaltej Gam, Thaltej, Doordarshan Kendra, Gurukul, Gujarat University, Commerce Six Road and Stadium Circle. The Old High Court Station (interchange with the 18.522 km north-south line) is a part of this line, but its construction will be carried out by Simplex Infrastructures as part of the north-south line’s 8.94 km Shreyas – Ranip package.

Ground-work for this section is expected to begin in March, and I expect it open for commercial operations no sooner than 2022, as this section’s opening is entirely dependent on the 6.83 km underground section between Shahpur & Kankaria East across which lies the line’s train maintenance depot at Apparel Park.
With this news, contractors for all packages of the east-west line are now known:

Construction Status of Ahmedabad Metro’s Phase 1
On the civil construction side of things, now only the financial bids of the 4.85 km Motera – Ranip stretch’s station package have to be opened. MEGA originally invited bids for that in February 2016, and following a poor response from bidders, re-invited bids in July 2016. Stay tuned to find out who’s the lowest bidder for that!
