1st Segment Launched for Nagpur Metro’s East-West Line

On Monday morning, workers from Afcons Infrastructure launched the first precast segment for building the 10.39 km Reach 3 leg of Nagpur Metro’s 18.557 km east-west line. Like the north-south line, this feat at Pier#153 in Subhash Nagar was accomplished using a mobile crane. Going forward, Afcons will deploy and commission a launching gantry crane to launch segments for the line’s viaduct.

The contract for this section was awarded to Afcons in October 2016, and their scope includes the construction of the line’s viaduct from the Hingna Depot near Lokmanya Nagar to the Sitabuldi Interchange. Construction work for the 10 stations en route was awarded to ITD Cementation India in September 2016 for which piling work is currently underway.

I don’t understand how are they going to erect a complete span without a LG. @MetroRailGuy, can you provide any insight into that?

    • Lokesh says:

Sorry, my bad. Didn’t read the launching girder thing in the article. Ignore.

      • TMRG says:

        No worries!

This is the strangest type of launch I’ve observed. Never seen it taking place in Delhi or even Hyderabad.
