Afcons Infra Begins Construction on Nagpur Metro’s Reach-2
On November 4, workers from Afcons Infrastructure conducted a ground breaking / bhoomi puja ceremony to launch construction work on Nagpur Metro’s 7.144 km Sitabuldi – Automotive Square section of the 19.658 km Line-1.
This section is officially referred to as Reach-2 and will consist of a 4.375 km double-decker viaduct – the third such structure in Nagpur (1st is on Wardha Road – see recent site image & 2nd is on Bhandara Road) for local traffic (level-0 on the ground), motor vehicles (level-1) and metro trains (level-2). After Reach-1, Reach-3 and Reach-4, this is the last and shortest leg of the 38.215 km Phase 1 project where work has started.
With a price bid of Rs. 604 crore, Afcons emerged as the lowest bidder for the project in mid-September and was then issued work orders by MahaMetro on October 16. The Zero Mile Station on this section is being constructed by ITD Cementation, and construction bids for 6 other stations at Kasturchand Park, Gaddigodam Square, Kadvi Square, Indore Square, Nari Road and Automotive Square are yet to be invited.
