1st Set of Piers Start Taking Shape for Bangalore Metro’s Line-3

Workers from the ITD-ITD Cem India JV have started tying up rebar for the first set of piers (pillars) for Bangalore Metro’s 19.143 km Line-3 which will connect Bommasandra and RV Road stations under the 73.95 km Phase 2 project.

These piers are located north of the U-shaped grade separator over Hosur Road near the National Highway Authority of India’s office in Electronic City, and are a part of package Reach-5’s 6.418 km Package-1 (Bommasandra – Hosa Road) which was awarded in April 2017 for a value of Rs. 485.52 crores.

Next steps: More rebar will be used to tie the existing rebar horizontally (see example). Once done, formwork (see example) will be brought in to facilitate a concrete pour and mold the skeletal framework into the desired shape.

Demolition works by BR Chawla and construction work by ITD Cem on this line is going on in bits and pieces wherever land has been acquired and the contractors have a clear right-of-way – see images on my Twitter handle. Here’s a video uploaded on November 19 which shows barricades at different places along the line’s route between Silk Board and Electronic City –

The 1st segment for the line’s viaduct was cast earlier this month. As per BMRCL’s November 2017 newsletter, compensation packages for 503 out of 545 (amounting to Rs 1360.03 crores) have been sent to KIADB for payment and compensation amounting to Rs. 889.46 crores has been paid for 296 properties.

    Hey TMRG,
Just went through the phase 2 info page. Isn’t the 2024 timeline (8 years from now) for is too late as most of the contracts are already awarded?

Contracts have not been awarded for the most important underground section of Gottigere-Nagawara stretch. That could push up the timeline of PH2 to 2024. As for the rest of the Ph2, they might get opened in phases from Q3-Q4 2019 (R-2,4 extensions)

not at all, given the speed of planning, tendering, design, approval, execution, commissioning, etc in India, especially in Bangalore, i would say 8 years is highly ambitious timeline, it would definitely take more than that time.

Now the MD of BMRCL is changed..you can expect more delays

Harsha – others have explained my position very well. The progress I’ve highlighted is great, but land acquisition (a tricky and hard process) has the ability to throw to throw things off track. You can already see court stay orders hanging outside of some properties along this line’s route on Hosur Road. All it takes is one resident to spoil the party for others.

Besides the underground section’s tendering (which’ll hopefully wrap up in early 2018), bids are yet to be invited for the new lines’ systems packages. This includes rolling stock, signalling, AFC gate etc. Bidding will take place during civil construction, but any sort of delay in that can again lead to delays. Eg. Lucknow Metro where the line was ready in early 2017, but the operator had no trains to run.

line 3 We have been designing since 2010(Planning going on much before that ), construction has started now, its too frustrating to work with such agencies like kolkata metro and banglore metro, india becoming a developed nation will only be a dream unless such people (working in every department) are put behind bars for their inefficiency. these guys have no concern for common people /environment/etc, they will take enormous amount of time to complete such important projects.

Thank you for the information TRMG. It seems ITD Cements is doing a great job by expediting the construction wherever they have opportunities… Also the same with Whitefield line as well.. they are really very fast when compared to the other contractors…

Utility shifting and barricading has started around many of the stations’ sites. Eg. RV Road, Ragigudda, Silkboard. In fact at Ragigudda, you should be able to spot a piling rig.

Work at the Jayadeva Interchange will start only after the flyover is demolished next year.

    https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/railways/metros-to-run-parallel-in-east-bengaluru/articleshow/62505575.cms

BENGALURU: In a first-of-its-kind design in Bengaluru, two metro lines (viaducts) will run parallel for about a kilometre between Tin Factory and KR Puram on Old Madras Road.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has opted for this expensive solution after it was unable to find a suitable location to build a station that could connect the two lines.

“We’ve set a 27-month target to finish with the construction work,” a BMRCL official said.

@ TMRG – Are you optimistic like me on this section ?. I feel this is straight forward and might actually happen in time.More like a flyover type construction

    Hi TMRG,
I was just going through this article and found that your marking of EC-1 and EC-2 stations on the google map is inaccurate. What you have marked as EC-1 station is actually EC-2 station and what you have marked as EC-2 station is Huskur Road station. BMRCL has put station names on the board for most of the stations where construction work has already started.
Sadly, Huskur Road station is the only station in package-1 of Reach 5, where construction has not yet started. A temple is located on the site of the station. If they avoid the temple, then they will need to construct the station on the Veerasandra Lake.
