NCC Launches 1st Set of U-Girders for Mumbai Metro Line-2B

This Saturday morning, workers from NCC with assistance from Amrik Singh & Sons erected their first set of U-girders, one after the other, for package CA-07 of Mumbai Metro’s 23.6 km Line-2B (Yellow Line), which will connect DN Nagar with BKC and Mandale.

Weighing 142 mt, both 25m long U-girders were successfully placed into position on top of piers P862 – P863 near Deonar Depot in Chembur, east of the Shivaji Chowk Station. To get to this milestone, the NCC team began erecting pier caps in mid-December 2019.

Package CA-07 between Chembur Station & Mandale Depot was awarded to NCC in April 2019 after several rounds of re-bidding. This package includes 5 stations at Diamond Nagar, Shivaji-Chowk, BSNL, Mankhurd and Mandale.

These are the first set of girders erected on the entire Line-2B by any contractor. Elsewhere, Simplex Infrastructures (CA-04R: DN Nagar – BKC) and RCC-MBZ (CA-06: BKC – Chembur) haven’t made much visible progress on the streets.

NCC didn’t take charge by sell off or subcontract. The tender for the work was recalled in which NCC was L1.
