Nagpur Metro Receives 19th CRRC Train; Returns 2 to Hyd Metro
Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) on March 2 announced via Facebook the delivery of its 19th CRRC Dalian train-set for the 38.215 km Phase 1 project. This new train-set is part of a Rs. 851 crore contract it signed with CRRC in October 2016 to procure 69 coaches (23 trains x 3 cars).

Having successfully commenced train services every 15 minutes and at the maximum speed of 80 KMPH, Maha Metro Nagpur has now increased its tally of rakes to a sizeable 19 (57 coaches).
The 3-coach train’s arrival in the short term is insignificant as less than half of the existing fleet is required to run commercial operations with self-imposed 15 minute headways on the 13 km Khapri – Sitabuldi section of the Orange Line and 30 minute headways on the 9.9 km Lokmanya Nagar – Sitabuldi section of the Aqua Line, all in order to cut down on operational losses.
With a surplus of train-sets available in its fleet until the rest of Phase 1 opens, Maha-Metro in January 2020 transferred two CRRC trains to Pune to facilitate trial runs (testing) on a 1.4 km section of Pune Metro’s Line-1 between PCMC and Sant Tukaram Nagar.
Late last month, Hyderabad Metro’s MD in a media interaction announced that Hyderabad Metro operates 55 trains and will be introducing two additional trains on its 28 km Blue Line (Nagole – Raidurg), indicating that the two Hyundai Rotem trains it leased to Maha-Metro in 2017 to facilitate testing in Nagpur, when it had a surplus of trains, have now returned back home for their original assignment.

ha, I don’t see another operator in West India requiring trains in the next one year – when Pune’s will start arriving. Mumbai L2/7 should be able to manage with its own trains, with deliveries starting in Q3 this year. If work on Surat’s system starts and they require trains, they’ll look at Ahmedabad’s stock.
