YFC Resumes Work on Delhi Metro’s Aerocity – Tughlakabad Line

YFC Projects Pvt. Ltd. has restarted development works at their casting yard to facilitate the construction of a 4.28 km section of Delhi Metro Phase 4’s Aerocity – Tughlakabad Line, after being suspended for more than a month due to the nationwide COVID-19 related lockdown.

YFC Project’s Package DC-04 (Sangam – Saket G-Block) is the third section of the 61.679 km (and growing) Delhi Metro Phase 4 project on which work has commenced through a Rs. 726.08 crore contract awarded by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in December 2019 with a deadline of 36 months.

This package combined with 3 other underground civil packages, DC-07, DC-08 & DC-09 (see package & status details), will form Delhi’s newest 20.201 km metro line connecting Aerocity – Mehrauli – Tughlakabad through 15 stations. The DMRC has not yet announced its official colour or line number, but it is likely to be numbered as Line-10.

YFC’s scope of works includes building a 6-lane double-decker viaduct on Mehrauli – Badarpur Road, an underpass at Saket G-Block, another 2 lane underpass from Mehrauli-Badarpur Road to Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, emergency siding lines and four elevated stations at Sangam Vihar, Khanpur, Ambedkar Nagar and Saket G Block

4.28 km DC-04 is the only elevated section on the Aerocity – Tughlakabad line. The rest three packages are underground and the publishing of their tender notices along with the Magenta Line’s DC-05 (Derawal Nagar – RK Ashram) – to wrap up the tendering process for the priority 61.679 km routes – is dependent on the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)’s approval.

When will Delhi Metro overcome London Metro as the third biggest metro in the world?

Can Mumbai Metro give a fight to Delhi Metro, or Delhi Metro, will always be the biggest for ever, in India?

Delhi Metro’s core network is 347 km while London’s is 402 km per wiki. Delhi’s 61 km priority routes of Phase 4 will make it surpass London’s network if they don’t have any expansion plans or new routes opening in the near future, so 2025ish I’d say.

Mumbai has a planned network of 337 km. Being an island, the core city (town part and immediate suburbs) is tiny and doesn’t need a huge network to serve it. If they continue expanding the network into MMR like some of the lines (Line-13, Line-14), then it can give Delhi a fight.
