Note: Chowk Bazar Station was earlier known as Gandhi Baug Station.

Surat Metro’s project has been moving along nicely ever since France’s Agence Française de Développement (AFD) revealed plans in April to finance its development through a €250 million  (approx. Rs. 2071 crore) loan.

Bidding is currently underway for a General Engineering Consultant and Detailed Design Consultant (Line-2 & portion of Line-1) with the last date for submissions later this month. Bids for the construction of its first section – a 11.6 elevated portion from Kadarsha Ni Nal to Dream City with 10 stations – were invited in June and the last date for submitting bids was recently extended to August 31.

With this development, Surat Metro’s Line-1 has just 1 more civil package for which bids have to be invited – a roughly 4 km elevated section from Sarthana to Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Kalakunj with 4 stations in the north-east part of the city.
